Admit I'm bringing up the rear on this topic because I'm new to the board although I've been waiting for my sti to get here for over two years. Aren't you guys kind of peeved that Subaru puts such low end tires on the sti as summer radials for standard equipment? I have a great tire guy that I have worked with for years for all of my cars, and he said that they break down really quickly. I'd almost rather Subaru give me a list of tires as part of an options package rather than playing "lets make a deal" with my dealer, or taking the car the next day to my tire guy. Then of course there is the issue of another winter like the one we just had. So discounting this past winter-what's the popular opinion for the basic year round tire? My guy votes for a dunlap high performance.

What do you mean by low end? I don't think the Bridgstone tires are all that bad, maybe not the best, but I think they are far from the worst. I am supprised that it is a summer only tire. For performance it's great but selling a car with summer only tires as standard is pushing it. Like you said they wear down quick so I am hoping by winter they will be shot and I can get a good all season or snow tire for the stock rims and get some performance tires on some nice rims for the summer. BTW, any high performance tire will break down quick. Most tires I have dealt with I was lucky to get 15k - 20k miles out of them. Usually the rear tires go first, I wonder why? :D Still I doubt any good performance tire will last over 20k miles.

Welcome to to the boards.

Unless Honda is in the habit of putting "low end" tires on the NSX Type R, then I would be worried. However, the Potenza RE070 that the STi is supposed to come stock with are super grippy and not extremely long lasting. They rival the Advans the Evo is getting. I suppose it does kinda suck (or maybe not) that people living in snowy areas aren't getting All Season tires. Then you are forced to buy new tires or new wheels and tires.

hi SFRinNJ. a big welcome to the forums. i wouldn't call the re070 low end; it looks like they're oem on the nsx:

true, they're not gonna last 40k (or maybe even 20k for that matter), but i'll bet neither do the tires on equivalently high performance cars (nsx, porsches, etc.) and at least *we* can rotate our tires. ;)
