wrx sti USA specs

This Post and thread is obsoleted by a newer post entitled, "STi Club Discount (Southern California)".

Since the time of this original posting for a "San Diego STi List", two dealers have agreed to offer our club a discount on all pre-sold STi orders. 8) Both of these dealers are in the Southern California area. For more details see the post entitled, "STi Club Discount (Southern California)", under STi Order/Waiting List Forum.

Best Regards:
ScoobyDo (Michael Asher)

PS: This thread (see below) may be helpful to those of you in other parts of the USA and Canada that would like to set up a similar arrangement for your fellow STi Club members in your local area/region.

If you do not live in California and you would like to take advantage of this discount you can! Just follow the instructions listed in the "STi Club Discount (Southern California)" posting. Basically, call one of the dealers listed there and tell them you are with the imprezaWRXSTi Club and give them any particulars about your location/situation.

"The STi List" of San Diego

Is anyone out there (in So. Cal. area) interested in making a "group" STi multi-vehicle purchase? Boy, that is a mouthful.

I have located a Subaru Fleet Manager who is willing to sell STi's to us as a group .

I have purchased a number of new vehicles. Buying through the Fleet Manager (FM) is the most favorable of all the methods that I have used, best price, least hassle.

Example: This particular FM sold Miatas to the SCCA Miata Club when they first came out for $500 over invoice, many people paid way over MSRP. The power of collective bargaining at work. You figure it out, assuming 30 people at ~$30K per STi that is ~$900,000. That will get any Fleet Managers attention. The more buyers the better, but even just 10 STi's is 10 times more bargaining power than you have when you walk into the dealership "alone" so to speak.

There is nothing in this for me except that I want an STi at a small amount over invoice. Exactly how much over invoice is yet to be determined. I plan to start negotiations at $500 over invoice.

Naturally, the more serious buyers on "The List" the easier it will be for us to get a great price. Everyone gets the same amount over Invoice, no special deals for the list originator. We all do well on this deal, or none of us do, period.

Since you don't know me and therefore probably don't trust me. I recommend that you put your name on your local dealers STi List to hedge your bet. If you can negotiate a better price and delivery through them then drop your name and position from this list, "The STi List" of San Diego, and buy through your source. If you can't get a better deal through your source then stick with us and watch collective bargaining do the work for you.

At some point prior to the STi's hitting the port in Vancouver, WA you will be hearing from our groups Subaru Fleet Manager directly. You will be asked to provide: your personal information, a list of accessories/options, vehicle color and a deposit check. He will officially place your order at that time.

Based on this Fleet Managers experience with the WRX sales; it takes approximately 8 weeks from the time of order to delivery. Presold, fleet vehicles get First delivery! even before the regular dealership allotments.

Seriously Interested Parties Only. Please respond directly to this thread, or via the Newsgroup alt.autos.subaru , or directly to Michael Asher at [email protected]

Thanks: Michael Asher ("The STi List" of San Diego Originator)

PS: As this list grows, I will make sure that everyone is kept up to date, as I will be negotiating with the dealer as the list grows.

PPS: No speculators PLEASE this is meant to be for Subaru/Racing Enthusiasts only.

Thanks:

My biggest concern about getting an STi is dealer markup. I will probably get one anyway, but if the dealer by me wants to tack on a $5k markup or something crazy I would be willing to come to San Diego to get one for $500 over invoice or something reasonable. I have talked to a couple local dealers but they did not have a list or want to start one yet. They did take my name and number though. After a friend of mine not being able to get a deal from any Subaru dealership around here on his WRX, I can just imagine what they will want for an STi. Anyway, keep me posted. Thanks.

I would be willing to go in on a group buy, but would first like to know which Subaru dealer this would be through. Also if I or other individuals were able to get better deals, what reasonable assurance would we have that we would not experience any ill effects for withdrawing from the group buy. (I wouldn’t want to let anyone down by backing out).

where the hell did they get this

I will not add you to the list unless you are serious. If you are serious then tell me you want to be added and I will add you.

I will continue to look in many of the same places you are looking for further info on (NA) STi Production Release dates and pricing, etc. When I find anything worthy of sharing I will.

Your concerns about $5K over invoice for an STi is what got me motivated to start this list.

I am into my first week of list keeping and already I am hearing it from my wife, "you are obsessed", she says. Well perhaps, but I have made a commitment to my fellow STi enthusiast and I intend to follow through.

If we stick together as a group. Then as a group we will have more bargaining power. In other words we should hold off from committing until we get a firmer commitment from a dealership. I am in contact with more than one dealer. I am currently leaning toward a dealership in San Diego. When I have a more substantial list. I will attempt to get something in writing from them, e.g., $X over invoice. At that point in time I will share details, dealer name and salesperson with the people on the list.

Also if I or other individuals were able to get better deals, what reasonable assurance would we have that we would not experience any ill effects for withdrawing from the group buy. (I wouldn’t want to let anyone down by backing out).
The only ill effects I can think of is you get so far down this road that:
you have placed an order with "The STi List" dealer and given them a deposit and then realized that you want out. You would call the dealer tell them you are backing out and that you want your deposit back.

"The STi List" dealer should give you your deposit back and that should be the end of it. That sort of thing is bound to happen if this list gets to any sizable length. I just hope that we can secure such a good deal that the only reason anyone would back out is because of some kind of family emergency, or something.

I am about as serious as you can get. I just do not want to commit to something I can't get out of. If I can get a better deal just driving down the street then I am not going to come across the country for it. So if backing out of this after you put me on the list is not going to be a problem like you explained to alfredob1, then YES put me on the list. Thank you.

Another question. We know STi availablility is going to be limited, what's not known is how limited. With that in mind how is this going to affect the group buy? Will a dealer be able to get enough STi's to fufill the order? Also how will the group deal with who gets thier STi first? Will it be on a first come first serve basis? I wouldn't want to be the last person on the list but I would rather be last and get a STi than not on and get nothing at all.

After considering the distance and all you would probably be better off to set up a local STi List. And do for the Illinois area what I am doing in Southern California.

I will get back to you with some details. After that please let me know if there is anything further you think I can do to help.

Good questions! :) I have been assured that presold vehicles take priority over regular dealer allotments. If a dealer was scheduled to receive 4 STi's as part of their regular allotment, but had 27 PRESOLD e.g. ordered with a deposit, vehicles. Then that dealer would get the 27 presold vehicles before they got their 4 regular allotments.

The people on the STi lists will be handled as presold. Our orders will go in and be filled prior to dealerships recieving their allotments.

If we do this right we will be in good shape. All of us. If you are last on a regional list. Yeah this will have to be done by region. Then that will probably only affect the date of delivery a bit. Remember when Subaru took your order they placed Their reputation on the line to deliver as promised. They seem like a very reputable company to me. So I am OK with that.

I would be a fool if I thought that there are no places in here for problems. Subaru can change the rules, or limit presales, or..., or...but I can only take action based on the current rules as I know them.

I hope this sorta helps. I think you guys will be more comfortable when the dealer calls and asks for your info and deposit and places an order in your name. Even though we buy with a group price we each have our own seperate paperwork and order and deposit. Just like if you did it all by your lonesome. Only the price is alot better.

8) I will be posting "The STi List" of San Diego (perhaps So. Cal.) in the near future. Your name will be on it as will the others that have requested to be included.

I look forward to our first STi group event. 8) 8) 8)

You can count me in!

OK, one more thing. There are some dealers that say they will not sell over MSRP. That said, could we deal with one of them? I mean if a group of people buy from one dealer instead of everyone going their own way that one dealer stands to make a lot of money without the need to go over sticker.

I think I am ready to be added to "The STi List" of San Diego (perhaps So. Cal.) 8)

ScoobyDo,
you can count me in. Like all other concerns I will be putting my deposit down as a right of refusal. I am getting an STi, it just depends on from whom. If the dealer can make good..then put me on the list.

Additionally, e-mail me or get back with me so I can send you some info. I will not be picking mine up in So Cal, but hopefully there is a port there so I can have it shipped to Europe!! I'll get the list of available ports I can ship it from to get to Europe.

ScoobyDo,
I would like to know more about doing a fleet purchase. Too bad I don't live in Cali. Is there more info you can give us on maybe setting this up in our own home towns? Or is there anyway we can get into your deal and take delivery elsewhere?

The variables are date and price.

My nitrous-SVX needs to be replaced, so if Fuji fools around and I get too impatient, it'll be a WRX with mods. If the dealer decides to pay the rent on my car deal, it'll become a matter of principle.

I am happy to help. I will put something together and post it here soon.

Bummer. :(

Yes, again I will have to put that together. I will post it here soon.

Or is there anyway we can get into your deal and take delivery elsewhere?
No. I have not found a workable way to do this. :(

See you at the races:

This may sound a bit narrow, but I had not even considered this situation. Why won't you buy from Germany, or the UK?

I don't think I can help you here. However, I am hoping that other people will get busy setting up similar Regional STi Clubs "Lists" and negotiating as a group. I have my hands full with the San Diego region and if I told my wife that I was going to handle Europe as well she would pack my bags.

Sorry:
