I have been asked the question on what part SOA will dump from the UK Spec and the Japanese Spec.

I bet it will be the seats. My prediction is that Subaru will take the current seats in our WRX, cover them in Alcantara and possibly leather bolsters, stitch the STi logo on them and call it good.

My reasoning:

1) Your normal buyer, even some "enthusiasts" don't want full out race seats in their car.

2) The STi seats don't have side airbags. Subaru = Safety in the minds of most US consumers, and subaru uses these in the current WRX to that end.

What do you think? Am I smoking crack here, or what??

I don't think they will leave out the seats.Part of the whole package is that you can buy a rally replica car for the road and the seats make up a large part of the image.
They might offer the same seats with a leather option to the U.S.

Leather or not, you will get them.

I hope they decide to remanufacture the seats with the side impact air bags. Those seats are what make the STI. The STI for America if it ever comes will be made for the US only. It may look like the others but the fact is there has to be some severe changes to make it legal here. And also who knows side impact air bags might be law by the time the STI is out. Besides the seats in the JDM are not true racing seats. They mount the same way our do, thats why its a bolt in Mod here in the US. The way the seats are mounted and all just isnt strong or light enough for racing. I personally think the seats in my WRX are gonna be more comfort than the JDM ones. Just a thought to add.....
