I think there is another post around here about that Spec R1. Anyway the Spec R1 doesn't really have any meat and potato mods, just floor mats and stuff like the other color. It looks kinda like a collector series, neat to have but you're probably not missing out too much.

WRX tranny

Well Canada isn't going to get anything different from us and i think that they are just going to give us this WRX with a flashy name to tide us over till the STI comes. Someone in the Anonymous forum posted that we were getting a STI called the Spec R1 but i guess it is just a WRX.

Frankly i think they are gonna wait till they change bodystyles for the WRX to bring the STI over. Cause by then the Subaru sales will be way up and they won't be affraid of loosing money by it.

Subaru.com posted its 2003 pricing lineup. The WRX goes up in price by $200 (not bad, considering its popularity), and "Sonic Yellow" is available for cars produced in the first three months.

Still no STi mention ... :x

I checked out a couple WRX's at the dealership and they had the optional turbo boost gauge. It was a pretty decent looking one. Mounted on the steering column not in the gauge pack on the dash. That's new for 2003 also isn't it?

Prodrive might enter Le Mans

I saw two new 2003 WRX's today at the Subaru dealer. One of them had a boost gauge on the steering colume, its from the factory. On the window sticker it listed for $297.00, it is not a dealer add on. Alot of money but it does look cool.

Small Upgrades???

Well today I went to the Subaru dealer and I talked to a salesman. I asked him if the WRX's boost gauge was a dealer installed option or was it comming from the factory as one of the options. The salesman told me that in the past it was a dealer installed option. But lately the WRX's are comming with the boost gauge as a factory option. On the window sticker the gauge is listed as an option, THIS IS NOT AN ADDITIONAL DEALER ADD ON. If you don't beleave me just go to your dealer and ask; in the past maybe that's how it was done. Now they are being delivered with the boost gauge as a factory option.

While I was there the salesman let me take out a 2003 white WRX........BY MYSELF! It was great, my first drive in a WRX. I was nice to it, I didn't drive it very hard, after all this will be someones pride and joy. They had one of those yellow ones there to; there are only sopposed to be 400 of them and they are going to have 2 of them, it kind of looked like it was a taxie cab yellow to me. Oh yea, they had an additional $1500 mark up on it and he said it was a firm price. A regular WRX in any other color could be had for $500 off the list price.

I did ask him about the STI, he didn't know anything specific about it other then it will have about 260 to 280 horsepower. He told me the STI would be here in 18 months and the price would be 30K and up. He didn't really know about the price but all he new was 30k or more. Is 18 months correct? That seems like along time before it gets here. He also said they had a couple of guys that had already put money down on an STI.

Some more thoughts....................

If this dealership is getting 2 of 400 yellow WRX's, this is based on the number of WRX's they have sold in the past according the the salesman. The salesman said there were some dealers that wouldn't get any yellow WRX's because they didn't sell enough WRX's. Then can I conclude that they will be getting about 8 STI's when Subaru starts to deliver them to the dealerships?

Here's the math.......If they are getting 2 of the 400 yellow ones then if Subaru only builds 1700 STI's; we don't know how many they are going to build but that is a number I have seen in the past then 2/400=.005 then 1700X.005=8.5 STI's for this dealership. This is only speculation on my part but what I got out of my conversatin with the salesman is Subaru gives the dealership a certain amount of WRX's which is based on the number of WRX's the dealer has sold in the past. In other words if you sell alot of WRX's then the dealer gets alot of WRX's and if the dealer doesn't sell alot of WRX's then the dealer dosen't get many WRX's.

I am thinking real hard about putting some money down for an STI, I do want one, but I will wait if I have to. I'm really temped to buy a WRX now but I think I'll wait the the STI provided it's not too expensive.

These are my thoughts about the STI, if anyone knows more on this please post. TIA

Always stick with the bigger dealerships when trying to order these cars or any cars. The more cars a dealership sells in volume, the more pull they have to stock limited edition cars. Whatever dealership in your state sells the most subarus, especially the most wrx's, they will end up with more sti's than the other dealerships. Trust me as I deal with this everyday in the car business
