Special Edition: Tofu delivery (First Part Bought)

Bought a used 08+ Cobb AP today, apparently 08 Cobb AP works with the '10 STi. So why did they make a AP that is only for the '10? I guess there's a firmware update or something. Confused the hell out of me for an hour or two though.

**Originally planned an install by Draco, but it fell though**

Also thinking about RAAMat at some point, probably will have to wait until Octoberish to be on leave so I can spend two to three days on install without having to go anywhere. I guess I'll add that into the parts at some point once I figure out how to change the organization.

Current Power Goal: 300WHP

Re: Special Edition: Tofu delivery (First Part Bought)

Thanks BAD_STi, hours of lurking certainly helped. I think I've read 15-20 member journals and 75% of the stickies so far. It also may have helped that I have an uncle with an '04 GD who has spent a ton of time with the mod bug biting him.:D

Like I said in OP, pics are still not really an option... wife is working 12+ hours a day, so pestering her for pics is not a good idea, and I can't take any of my own right now. I'll have to find some good spots to take some pics while I'm home. There will def be some before and after pics for the install and maybe a dyno video if I can find my camera I left at home. ;)

Quick question for anyone out there who has a turbo blanket. My uncle has been told that the turbo blanket can cause your turbo to burn out faster. Is this true? I'd probably still get one anyways....

Sounds like you're in the military, I assume you're stationed at Bragg? I noticed you're from good 'ole Fayettville:), I was stationed there with the Army once upon a time. Anyway, it sounds like you've got some good plans for your STI already! Have fun modding the car out, some pics of the car soon would be nice:).

Back on topic, updated the mod list a little and linked all the mods. R&R is still on schedule for me to be taking pictures in say... a week and a half.... if flights dont get cancelled. Stay tuned.

Got my first picture from the Wife. D*mn good job considering it's an iPhone

*NOTE: Dealers are idiots. They told the wife it would run on REGULAR octane fuel.

Re: Tofu delivery Special (First Picture is Up!)

Fellow DGM owner! Nice looking car, and your mod list is ambitious! PLEASE share your impressions of the Maddad Whisper and DP, as this is the setup I am looking at for Stage 2 here shortly.

So how does the STi handle the Tail? :D

Nice car man, I bought a the DGM Special Edition today, gonna keep an eye on your thread here. I wish I could use more parts off my 05 STi, from what I can tell my Accessport won't work on this one.

Re: Tofu delivery Special (First Picture is Up!)

So, to update everyone, got my first drive in tonight. Thought the stock tune fell on its face, and the COBB AP isnt here yet. Mailman left a failure to sign notice, and I'm hoping that was the AP. Stage 2 is inevitable.

So how does the STi handle the Tail? :D
I've read quite a few pieces on the GR, and it seems like the bodyroll and understeer described by many drivers has been fixed in the Special Edition. The nose still rises up, but the tail seems quite stable, with me pulling in second gear 3000-6500 rpms on a corner that should be taken at 15mph (wasnt looking at speedo).

For a little while before I came home, I was looking at cheaper exhausts, but after an initial drive, the Maddad Whisper is going to be the exhaust due to relative loudness.

More pics will come after I get her detailed... it's way too dirty right now.

Re: Tofu delivery Special (Stage 1 Installed)

Installed Stage 1 after picking my COBB AP up from the post office, and WOW! Huge difference in power. Before I felt like the STi was slow, and now its getting closer to how I want her to run. 3rd gear doesnt fall flat anymore, and the size of the usable powerband is so much larger.

Went to Epic Motorsports today, and it turns out their subie tuner is on vacation. Draco Motorsports still hasnt gotten back to me and the 3 hour drive for a tune that wont be better than the one Epic will do is pushing me away from going there. Stage 2 will be soon, the big hitch will be the wife test on the Turboback. Maddad whisper is quiet from what I've listened to and read, but 1600 for an exhaust is too rich for my blood right now. Either it will have to wait, or I'll have to find a much cheaper exhaust.

yeah, I'm looking at holding out on the catback and only doing a cheap downpipe and a perrin intake for now cause of cost.

Today I went and got NC legal limit (35% transmission) tinting installed. 3M clear bra install will be tomorrow. Had to wash her up for the photos. Sorry the quality sucks, only working with the iPhone camera.

Re: Tofu delivery Special (35% tint installed)

Perrin has their intakes on sale til the end of April, but they don't have their maps for the 2010 yet, so you wouldn't want to put the cai on until either their maps are ready or you can get protuned.

I went ahead and ordered mine anyway just to get the good price. It's just gonna be sitting in the box til their 2010 maps are ready though.

The stock CBE isn't a huge restriction. I got my SE protuned last week with a TXS CAI, Forge MBC and an Invidia Catless DP. Airboy dyno plot put it at 289whp/312wtq, so close to your power goal, and if she can deal with the intake sound, it should pass the wife test.
