I contacted a local Subaru dealer here in Austin about a first right of refusal deposit. Apparently two other people are already on the list and they paid $1000 non-refundable deposits. Hopefully that was just exhaggeration on the salesman's part. I hope to talk him down by using my dealings with mitsu. Maybe he'll go for it maybe not. If not, Texas is a big state and TT&L doesn't change anywhere so I'm sure some other dealer would be glad to make a better aggrement.

If they are non-refundable, what happens if Subaru decides not to release the STi here or there are not enough to go around and that dealer only gets one or none? I don't think I would put a lot of money down on something I do not know for sure is coming.

They cant legally take your money. If you put a deposit on something that you cant drive and be sure you like it, they have to refund your money for it. Besides all they are gonna do is make interest in their bank with your money. Your basically giving them free money already. Theres some key points id use when you call them back.

Just got my name on lists with three dealers here in the San Diego area.

At one of them I managed to get slot #1; they only want $100 as a deposit and won't take the money until they actually have ordering information.

Now we'll just have to see if I can get color choices and how much over list they'll go...

OK. I called a salesman at El Cajon Subie also on Tuesday the 11 or 12. He took my name and several numbers and told me he was going to speak with his Subaru manager. He called me back on the 12 and told me they weren't starting the list yet. I realize there is more than one Subaru salesman at El Cajon so I wonder what happened.
