I have a couple of questions, as I am seriously considering the WRX STi. One can you order it without the freakin spoiler? I don't want a spoiler....if it comes with one I will just remove it. (sorry I hate spoilers on anything but a Porsche, and think putting them on sedans should be a federal crime.)

More important is the tall person factor, while I have sat in a 2003 WRX I was wondering if there is any difference in leg room on 2004 models especially STi. While I realize the majority of sports sedan owners are midgets recently escaped a russian circus, and in need of a sports sedan to enflate their ego, being 6'5" and most of it in my legs I have a rather hard time in this area when it comes to cars. I can fit in the WRX 2003 fine (awsome head room) but it can cause my knees to hurt after a while and I can't really stretch them out on road trips.

Is it possible to move the entire seat back railings and all and get more leg room? Anyone ever done this or heard of it done? Cost? I couldn't care less if anyone sits directly behind me. long as my girl is in the passenger seat, and maybe I can squeeze in a couple of friends on rare occasion in the back.

Thanks for any input.....tall people need nice cars too.

The one thing I CAN answer is that you can not order an STi without the enormous spoiler. I wouldnt worry too much about it because there are enough people around that want to pull that thing off that their will be some alternatives coming out soon I am sure.
Can't help you will the tall-guy stuff.......5'9" here.

I'm 6'4". Fit fine in the '03 and '04 WRX. Same leg and head room, the latter being very generous. The entire seat slides back and goes up/down, plus the seatback reclines.

Haven't sat in an STi yet (still waiting for mine). I'm thinking that it will be comparable to the regular WRX, except maybe the different seat will have some effect. Hopefully not much.

Don't know if you can move the rails back.

To quote Randy Newman, "Short people got no reason to live".

j/k, my wife is short, she's only 6'0".

I have a friend ,6-9'' 250 lbs ,he thought he would have to move the seat rails back, he fits fine, I would never by a car and add a spoiler ,most know the reason why, but the wing is a part of the bad to the bone image of this car ,kinda like the 70 daytona or the superbird,

Same body.....same car....different components bolted to/on it. Spoiler is there no matter what. If you are too tall for the WRX, you're the tallest guy I've ever met. I know quite a few people wi77iam will fit...you probably should....unless you're done commercials for VISA and Mac.

Seriously, I don't know of any other cars with the STis performance that is any larger inside.....oh, check that....Porsche Cayanne.

Ok I'm starting to get an idea.....but not completely...so I can buy a standard no spoiler trunk for a black wrx and it will work on and match the black STi for example? Anyone know cost of trunk, and cost to be installed roughly by dealer?

Second...I still have not heard anything on the possibilities of moving the seat back. Yes i fit in a wrx 2003 it has same dimensions as 2004 STi, so I should be fine as far as fitting.....for sporty driving having fun...but on road trips you like to be able to have a bit more room, you simply do not get this usually as a tall person..(without a lincoln, or box van etc...)

I just want to know and call me crazy.....but is it possible to move the rails back are they connected to any special part of chasis for saftey that makes them unmovable etc? is this a possible modification and what would it cost....that's my real queastion...pretend I'm a 8 foot chinese basketball player...I just want to know if it is possible., and if not teh reason why......

Anything can be done with the proper motivation, knowledge, and bank account. It's just a matter of what one is willing to spend and do.

I want I want

When i had my Type R i had the seat set to the next to last setting in distance back. On the STI i have it set to about the same length and the STI's seat can still go quite a ways back. When i first got in the car at the dealership i put the seat the farthest back it would go expecting that to be close to where i will need it. I could barely push in the clutch. I had to move it up like 4-5 clicks. So i think that the STI's seats go WAY back when it comes to leg room. Peace!!

I think there is a slight difference in the seating between the WRX and STI. I think the overall distance is pretty much the same but I believe the STI seat ratchets lower than the WRX in the lowest position, which is necessary to get the longest position. In my WRX I had the seat in the 2nd to longest setting with the seat ratcheted all the way down. In my STI I now have it in the furthest setting and ratcheted to the bottom. The difference being that since the STI sits lower I feel more comfortable with the seat further back. Otherwise, my thighs don't rest on the seat, but rather are above. I'm not sure about moving the rails, I've often wondered the same thing on other cars. By way of comparison I'm about 6'2" but I have a 35 " inseam. Oh yeah, the car is so awesome you won't really care about the seats once you start driving!

here is my solution

Some people are also looking into trading their STi trunk with somebody else for a standard WRX trunk. This way you can get the smaller spoiler.....but nobody has done it yet to my knowledge....i am looking forward to see if everything works out there.

It's fo decoration man! just decoration.

Here is a joke for ya..
A beautiful woman goes to HR of her company and goes: I'd like to file a harassment claim...
HR department goes: What is the issue, dear?
She goes: Every morning, when this guy sees me, he gets close, smells me and tells me my hair smells nice.. So HR goes, we don't see anything wrong with that, the guy is just trying to give u a compliment.. And the lady goes: the guy is a MIDGET!!!

Anything is possible :) You can move it back to the trunk if you want, just go to a machine shop and have them design the rails for you. Cost? No idea. The rails wont cost too much, but you'd have to remove and modify the carpet, weld the rails in, etc. Probably $1000 or so.
