If all you want is to upgrade the gear, here is what is needed for 2008-2014 vehicles.
Actual parts needed:

34110VA120: Perry Subaru Subaru Gear Assembly 34110VA120 | The Subaru Source These guys have a promo code WE-STI that is still good 6/27/2018
OPTIONAL PARTS(links below as well):

-SR Rack Bushings
-Cusco steering rack brace: CUS 692 026 ALHD
-They also offer a combo of both which is a tad cheaper


Statement from Noximus:

You are NOT obligated to do the bushings and brace. They're an upgrade for the stock bushings and brace, but they are NOT required. They are simply easier and more convenient to do while you have the rack out of the car. I decided to do them because they were on my build list before this endeavor.

I did however leave the diagrams left 2015 and right 2011 GR. Of-course a diagram is not to be used for fitment reference.

Some installation tips for DIYers.

Tip: Use seat belt to lock steering wheel and keep it from turning full rotation potentially damaging your clock spring.

Tip: Dont remove the u-joint. Simply loosen top retaining bolt and slide it UP the steering column out of the way. Then snug up the bolt to keep it from falling down. Let it hang.


Tip: Always make sure the rack is centered before hooking up the u-joint. To do so by either count rotations or look at marks on the gear. If tool is not available have a buddy hold the steering wheel dead center while you connect the u joint.

Tip: If everything is bolted down, wheels are pointing straight, steering wheels is straight but amount of threads on each tie rod is different the rack is NOT centered. Do not proceed, correct the error.


Tip: Once all is bolted up and done; With front wheels off the ground fill reservoir to hot line and turn rack left to right lock to lock(engine off). Do about 20 rotations or until no more audible bubbles are coming from the reservoir. They will be heard at the end of each stroke. This will keep your pump run air free when you first fire it up. Once running wheels off floor(no load) repeat bleeding procedure several times or until pump is fully silent.During this process fluid level will drop, top off as it goes down.

Tip: If your drive to the alignment shop is considerable you may follow this basic thread counting measure. It is offered as a guideline and is not a replacement for actual alignment. On a FACTORY UNMODIFIED ride highth GR you should end up with about 11-13 threads on each tie rod. Each thread being the "high" point of visible inner tie rod thread.

$500?! Easy install?! I've been told only the steering angle sensor is different.

I'm jumping all over this if it pans out!

Maybe something to do with the hydraulics???
Nope. The ratio is a mechanical thing. It's the result of the diameter of the gear running on the gear rack inside the steering rack assy. Something doesn't add up. I doubt part numbers are even released yet for the new racks and if subaru puts out a new ratio I'm sure it is there. Testers noticed the quicker steering too. That's not suspension geometry. That doesn't affect how quick it will go lock to lock.

I've found a vin in the waiting thread and corrected the error.

34110VA120- same price . Hopefuly someone will want to give it a shot.

re: Swap a 2015+ Rack into an earlier STI?

If this works out, I will drop the cash right then and there, I would love to have 13:1 ratio

2015 STI Steering rack Retrofit

Does any know if the 2015 STI steering rack would fit into the GR? I remember seeing a thread on this, but the thread died before any useful information came out of it. Please post if anyone knows anything.

I'm lickin my chops at this potential mod. This is one of those mods that transforms the car completely like an upgraded turbo :devil:

One thing I do know is that it will completely throw off all VDC settings so the only way the car can properly drive is with the system completely turned off. Before drooling about this realize that this system is not that intrusive, even turned on, and less so with the green/traction control disabled mode. Also please keep in mind your overall setup, and if anyone else besides yourself, however remote you feel the chance might be, would ever drive your car.

Until someone finds a way to tune the VDC to accept this mod, this should be considered a "track only" add-on to GD's or GR's.

I drive with the VDC off all the time anyways because I have traction problems to begin with :lol: I see this as a preventive measure (besides uploading a "valet" map) in the event of personnel from the body shop or the god forbid the valet from taking my car for joy rides.
