LolHas anyone taken off the turbo and replaced it with a supercharger ?
I remember at least one thread on that too, don't believe the guy ever got it to function quite right though. Now my interest would be an H6 swap with a supercharger. :naughty: I bet that could be hard-on inducer.I thought I saw a Subaru STI that was twin-charged running a turbo and supercharger? That was a long time ago though.
not sure if you are refering to my post or not but, its popularity in the older cars is due to the fact they are commonly built for autocrossing and a supercharger is preferred to some since it is lag free as you stated above and the motor is N/A so they can go either method of boost without one being much less difficult other than the last and have their preference.Why would anyone want to do that, you will be able to make more power with a turbo. Only positive side I see to a supercharger is its linear power band curve which can be safer on the engine and the fact that it is belt driven for lag-free issues.
saw a twin turbo H6 swapped GD on the european ebay about a month ago. that engine bay was crammed as hell.I remember at least one thread on that too, don't believe the guy ever got it to function quite right though. also never heard of a twincharge setup running properly and efficiently enough to justify the cost/work involved compared to a proper single/twin turbo setup.A twin-charged setup would be what you would be looking for on an STi. Aka, supercharger for low RPMs boost and the turbo for mid and top end. Most Group B cars ran those setups in the '80s, pretty badass but also very costly. Never heard of it being done on a Subaru, but you never know...![]()

Yeah, noticed a few too, but still; DAMN!!^^lol there are so many inefficiencies I can spot in that setup
I'm not a supercharger expert, well.. I barely know anything about them at all really, but I don't think I agree with your post. Doesn't a supercharger do the same thing a turbo does, just using a different method? The supercharger is still compressing and forcing more air into the combustion chamber just like a turbo is.Supercharger = pay for power
Turbocharger = free power
Superchargers offer hp at the cost of fuel where as a turbo "recycles" the exhaust of already spent fuel.
