Lol

Maybe it's been done. I know plenty of people have supercharged the BRZ but the STi has always been praised for its turbocharged performance.

Supercharger = pay for power

Turbocharger = free power

Superchargers offer hp at the cost of fuel where as a turbo "recycles" the exhaust of already spent fuel.

Exhaust gases go into the turbocharger and spin it, witchcraft happens, and you go faster.

I don't see why anyone would want to replace the turbo unless it was a peculiar build where the owner had built a motor that required a turbo the size of a basketball and was simply tired of lag.

Why would anyone want to do that, you will be able to make more power with a turbo. Only positive side I see to a supercharger is its linear power band curve which can be safer on the engine and the fact that it is belt driven for lag-free issues.
I thought I saw a Subaru STI that was twin-charged running a turbo and supercharger? That was a long time ago though.

I remember at least one thread on that too, don't believe the guy ever got it to function quite right though. Now my interest would be an H6 swap with a supercharger. :naughty: I bet that could be hard-on inducer.

not sure if you are refering to my post or not but, its popularity in the older cars is due to the fact they are commonly built for autocrossing and a supercharger is preferred to some since it is lag free as you stated above and the motor is N/A so they can go either method of boost without one being much less difficult other than the last and have their preference.

saw a twin turbo H6 swapped GD on the european ebay about a month ago. that engine bay was crammed as hell.
A twin-charged setup would be what you would be looking for on an STi. Aka, supercharger for low RPMs boost and the turbo for mid and top end. Most Group B cars ran those setups in the '80s, pretty badass but also very costly. Never heard of it being done on a Subaru, but you never know... ;)

also never heard of a twincharge setup running properly and efficiently enough to justify the cost/work involved compared to a proper single/twin turbo setup.
that is like getting rid of your hot supermodel wife, for a more expensive hot supermodel wife?
STi+supercharger+better interior=S4

DONE! and you get better interior ;)
^^lol there are so many inefficiencies I can spot in that setup
Like all the air being introduced to the set up across the all the heat coming off the motor for one...

I'm not a supercharger expert, well.. I barely know anything about them at all really, but I don't think I agree with your post. Doesn't a supercharger do the same thing a turbo does, just using a different method? The supercharger is still compressing and forcing more air into the combustion chamber just like a turbo is.

When you have more air in there, you're going to need more fuel whether the source is a supercharger or turbocharger. I'm not sure where you're getting this "free power" from.
