Subaru should start worrying. Those who are naive to the fact that Mitsubishi cars are garbage may just go out and buy an evo if there is no alternative. Subaru will lose out big if they dont stop dragging their feet on bringing the STI. Two of my friends who are so fed up with subaru are going to buy Evo's when they come if we dont have the STI. I really wish I could know what the hold up is.

Hold on there--

Subaru may be bringing the STi at the same time as the EVO, they just haven't announced yet.

In my mind the main reason they don't want to announce just yet is that depending on how aggressive thier pricing strategy is, they could cut into sales of the WRX.

Mistu doesn't have to worry about that- the typical Lancer OZ Rally buyer is not going to spend 12-15K more for a Lancer EVO.

The typical WRX buyer, however, may actaully spend the extra 5-8K on a STi.

I don't expect an official announcement till 3-6 months before we get our cars...

This is the first year for the WRX alone. SOA is not going to reduce sales on the WRX by announcing the STI. They want to see how thew WRX sells here for at least a year. Then they will probly consider the STI in america. Just my thoughts.

Another point-

Subaru has already been testing the STi here in the US. When the time actually comes, it's not going to be a long time from decision time to delivery time...

I would expect this decision when final sales numbers come in on the 2002 WRX, which probably will be some time early fall (like Sept or Oct 2002).

Actually, you should convince EVERYONE you know to buy an Evo. It will only better your chance at having an STi. People went thru the same bullshit about the WRX, too. "I'm tired of waiting for the WRX. I'm gonna buy a (insert competing car company here) instead." They went and bought another car, and the WRX still came and they went, "Ah ****, time to trade in the S4..." We true fans of the STi KNOW it's coming within the next 1-2 years, so be patient! And keep telling people, "I doubt it's coming. Get an Evo, dude! MUCH bigger aftermarket, blah blah blah."
