Subaru R&D Facility in Ann Arbor MI

Subaru of Irvine California has already taken 27 deposits ($500 each which they do not cash) and the staff has confirmed that everyone who makes a deposit will get an STI.

The Representative also stated that the STI will be between 28-35k (as expected), will be arriving in the U.S. between September 02 and June 03, and that Subaru is planning to bring well over 2000 STI's (somewhere around 6500).

*However, I believe that if Subaru does make the STI around 35k, it would be cheaper to "tweak" a WRX for 10k and possibly get better numbers.

Cheers!

Marine06,
Good news. Yeah I have already put my money down in Maryland so that I can get it shipped to Germany!

Everyone can get one as long as they "order" one.

I think the car will be sold around $30K. $35 is too much for a Subaru and nearly the entire population knows that. All of us who know what it really means will stick our new out for a $30K+ car, but $35K might be stretching a tad..especially when the Evo7 has been announced at right around $30K.

SOA has not yet made an announcement regarding the STi. I am leaning toward waiting until they do before placing a deposit. When they have made there official announcement then it will be possible to place an official order through the Fleet manager for a made to order STi.

I believe they will be able to deliver on all of the orders, but they can not be sure unless there is some info. from SOA.

Just my .02

PS: I have been unable to confirm the STi article on ScoobyTuner. It's source does not appear to be SOA at this point.

well let's keep in mind dealerships don't care or give a crap. They will tell all the lies they need in order to get u to make a deposit or whatever. If u put money down u will probably not go lookin anywhere else for a car..AND it only gives them more information about u etc and more standing to say well guess what we have ur money so u have to buy this car at this price or u don't get it back ..we already ordered it blah blah blah more lies etc etc.... My point they will lie through their teeth and in the end most of the world population are suckers.. I already know many people that purchased 2002 wrxs at 25000..I mean give me a break retail is only like 23000 ..HAH
They live off of lies and idiots that believe them..they are like criminals but actuallly its legal because people don't see them coming.

I couldn't tell u how many dealerships have told me that they could ORDER an STI or 2003 ,,BUT they didn't even know how much they would COST..or WHEN they were coming ..GIVE ME A BREAK.. keep in mind there is a lot of BS out there ..use ur head and sort it out.

I agree. That is an excellent point because the dealers motivation is cold hard cash, its their living so I don't blame them. But on the other hand I hate to haggle, it just pisses me off. You are right, use your head. I like to follow the phrase "follow the money." This process of thinking answers lots of question.

1BADmf, i agreew with a lot of what you are saying, but you have to remember that Dealers arn't out there "to screw you over." Sure, they will get the few that are completely ignorant but you have to remember that they are in the business of PR (Public Relations). Subaru dealers want you, the customer, to come back to the company when you are looking for another car.

not too mention it is COMPLETELY ILLEGAL to demand someone to buy a car based on a $200, $100, or even a $1000 dollar deposit. You cannot do that by law..no matter if they order or not.

Another thing the dealership I have ordered mine through is selling at MSRP only...anything more..I walk...WITH MY MONEY!

Even if they add on a nice markup which I am sure most if not all dealers will, and you walk... they are not going to care cause they will still be able to sell the car.

How can they confirm this??? They don't know the price or when, but they can guarantee that everyone who puts money down will get one. How do they know how SOA will allocate them? What if every dealer only gets one or the big sellers get a couple?

Yeah, I know, but not to me..to someone else who is willing to pay the "extra" for a car. After all it is still a car.

I think there have been various rumors that say preorders will be handled separately from the regular allocation. The idea being that actual preorders will all be honored, and in addition to that, the normal allocation of 1700 (or whatever it turns out to be) will arrive.

Yeah, that's what I have been told. It makes sense b/c it gives SOA more of a chance to make money off this deal. I mean think about how financially destructive this would be if they ONLY brought 1500 or so units in the states and yet you had 10,000 people wanting one with money in hand?? Big loss on their part, especially since the Evo will be fairly easily accessible!

I can't see how, if Subaru is only planning on bringing and only produce x amount of US spec STi that they would bring more over. Seeing as how there is not a huge interest in fleet orders, I don't see there being a huge demand for the STi especailly with some of the prices I hear and a dealer markup. I hear so many people say... "$xx,xxx.xx for a SUBARU?!?!, for that amount I would rather have a XXX" Subaru already has the WRX here as a money maker and I think that will be more of the EVO's competition, especailly since I have heard of the US getting a detuned EVO with only about 250hp. If anything Subaru will see how the STi does and bring more the following year, but I don't think they are going to produce 5k with a risk of only selling 1-2k. If putting money down and pre-ordering would guarantee me an STi, I will put money down tomorrow cause my second biggest worry behind the US getting a wattered down STi, is even getting one.

First let me say that if you are willing to place a pre-order now before the official announcement with [or without a deposit] there is absolutely no reason for you to sign anything obligating you to a penny over MSRP upon delivery. To be even more blunt; if the dealer you are talking to now about an STI is not talking "$xxxx above invoice and options at cost" I STRONGLY STRONGLY suggest you find another dealer.

Pre-orders are sure [easy] revenue for a dealerships if you follow-thru with the purchase. They pay no advertisment, no fees for having a car sit on the lot, and other perks I'm not previed to, but the best part is --> withstanding pre-orders they will still get their pre-determined annual allotment.
In general if a dealer is pre-allocated 3 STI's per year but they pre-order 15 cars they should get 18 cars for the year [if production capability can keep up with demand].

I'm suggesting that if SOA get 400 pre-orders they will make every effort to also sell the rumored 1700 on top of that number, in this example we would be looking at 2100 STI's.

Albert,
This is exactly how I took it from the dealer I am working with. He guaranteed me no more than MSRP (of course I will try to work him under that, or to include everything I should on the car).

If FHI can make enough cars and SOA can fill enough orders then there is no reason to not bring an additional X-number of cars over to fit the demand. I don't think we will see more than the number of WRXs on the street in comparison to the STi, but I do believe that if someone (ME :D) is willing to put that kind of money down on a Subaru we'll see more than the allocation (just like with the WRX allocation...the production has easily surpassed the announced allotment of cars SOA was bringing over...b/c people pre-ordered).

Te Evo is a much more car than the WRX stock, even detuned..which is not for certain. I think if the STi comes in JDM form and the EVO comes in JDM form...the EVo will beat up on the STi..especially with the Active diffs, FMIC, more power, less weight, etc..

Who knows..this is really a big waiting game.

All the comparos I've read on JDM Evo vs. STi debate pretty much say the same thing, both cars are virtually equal. One thing they praise the STi on is a more compliant ride. That may change however because Mitsu might soften the suspension on the US spec Evo. If they do, we won't know until you get them side by side.

new to the group . . .
i'll be in the market for a new car in august/september . . . these are my options - get my hands on a wrx now :-? or wait til SOA announces the release of the sti then get on a list for it :-?
not sure if i can wait til next summer for the new ride, though!! what i want to know is this: is the wait for the sti worth it or can a flexed-up wrx hang when the sti finally makes its appearance?
