I am wondering how good the A/C systems usually are in subaru's? I live down in Florida and having a good A/C is a MUST. Anybody with a Subaru now?

Car And Driver Test

Mine in my Legacy works real good. I also have tint on my windows which helps too. One thing, the STi is coming with a semi-auto AC system. Not sure if this is a first for Subaru.

The SVX came with the auto AC system. It worked great as far as keeping you warm or cold, but it's choices as to which vents it used was confounding...and there wasn't a manual mode to make it come out the locations you wanted....just a dial that provided options which the system constantly over-rode. I didn't like it all that well other than the ability to set the temperature at which the system engaged (digital readout). Hopefully the STi will use the temperature setting like the SVX, but allow us to direct the vents it comes out at....oh..and set the fan speed too.

From the pictures on NASIOC of the newly delivered STis, you can get some more details of the system.

Here you can see the auto temp control. Set the temp and it will blow that temp of air. Then, you can see the fan control. There is an auto setting, or you can set the fan speed.

And......to YBNormal's delight...you can select where the air is blowing (face/floor/so on).

I had heard a while ago that WRX has weak A/C. Is/was this true.
How about STI?

Can anyone who actually owns a US spec. STI comment on this-please?

I have never felt the AC system on a WRX so I dont know how it compares, but I dont think the STi AC is weak at all. Its been really hot here in ca and the AC has been holding up real nice.

It was 92 here on Friday. It was raining in the morning when I parked at work. By lunch time it was HOT. The car thermometer said 99 when I left the lot. I live only 3 miles from work and by the time I got about halfway there It was cool and comfortable.

It was 108 degrees when I left work this afternoon and the STi's AC was easily able to cope. I live in Arizona, so low humidity. I had the temperature set to 75 and the fan on the second highest manual speed. As a plus, the fan is quiet too. Only gets a bit loud on the highest speed setting, but I've heard worse.

Here in high humidity the AC seems to work great too. Dehumidifies quickly. And the fan sound is easily drowned out by the road noise. :wink:
