Wolf,

Quick question.. I'm looking at some logging from a few weeks ago (low humidity, 55 degrees) and I'm seeing 20/22/24/30 (varys). This is the v1.04 stage2 basemap, of course, 100% throttle.

Are the values you recommend starting points, or, ending? I find it hard to beleive that cobbs shelf maps already are more aggressive than this.
These are starting points for dialing in a static map. Yes, you are right, the stock map is capable of slightly more ... but, that is very optimistic. Most people get less and this OEM timing is usually very erratic. I had my original map tuned in to slightly more aggressive timing than what was mentioned above. I started my mapping over from scratch and will be approaching the timing again. I'll post after that is done ... but, it will be a little while cause I am pretty busy right now.

WolfPlayer, I have a question about your tuning guide. But first I have to thanks you for taking the time to write this guide thus opening the tuning door to us NOOBS, again thanks. In your guide with reference to boost you say most tuners set the target boost first and then use 75% WDC high across the board. Do you mean the the last vertical row or max TP or the whole map from 0 TP to 80 TP.

Thanks,
Marcos

First, for those reading this thread, I'd really like to update the original article because I wrote it 1.5ys ago. That's a long time.

Second, to answer your specific question, I was referring to the last vertical row; namely, the 80% throttle column. IN NO WAY would you want to set the whole table to 75%.

You need to ask Cobb for the map or use jorge's map on his website the stage2 streettuner map located at www.projectwrx.com
Is this the map your writing about.

2005 STI stage 2 93 oct.
Description: Cat back exhaust, K&N Typhoon, 93 octane. AVCS optimized for spool up and bottom end torque. Ignition timing optimized under part throttle and cruise positions for fuel economy. WOT AFR at 12:1 through the bottom end and midrange, tapering to 11.7 by redline.

Thanks

i've always wondered if the injectors are really too small or is it the crappy fuel pump. 525 injectors at 85% duty cycle on a 4 cylinder car should be able to support 360BHP easily.

i replaced my pump with a walbro and now my a/f @ wot is 10.2-4 before it was 10.9 and this is with a stage 2.

Thanks,
Sid

so is it true that in an 04 sti that changes made to the real time map for fuel does not take effect only the base maps?

I'm pretty happy with my street tuner. so far i got my methanol dialed into 10.9:1 can't wait until i get more like 11.5:1.

I'm still kind of scared about playing with the timing or trying to tune my perrin ebcs.

THanks,
Sid

Wolf,

Please keep this post going, I know it has been several years but it is highly informative and I am interested to here some updated info. I just installed my NGK AFX Wideband gauge/UEGO kit and am preparing for tune.

Yea, I should totally look at this when I get time. I was a LONG time ago when I wrote it. I am sure things have changed a bit since then. I'll be pretty busy for the next week - so definitely not soon.

I think a lot of the information still applies, and looking at it even now, I think you did a pretty good job.. Maybe you could just take a look at the timing section, as I think that portion needs an update.

Also as an aside:
I'm currently writing a tuner primer for a local club site, and I never really noticed this--till I had to write a how to of my own for others--but the tuning threads with most value are always problem solving threads and never how tos. I've hardly ever learned anything of value from a how to--with regard to tuning--but I have learned quite a bit from reading about other user's issues. When writing my own primer, I found myself trying to integrate most of the information compiled from the problem solving threads, and discarding most of the reductive how tos out there.

Understanding this made it easier for me to compile different issues and explaining them. You probably did the same for your own how to, but I never really thought about it in that way for some reason.
