so i finally found someone in my area that will make me a straight pipe...for like 60 bucks...the only catch is he only does 2.5 in. pipe...i want 3 in....

so, my ? is...is the half an inch difference gonna make that much of a difference in sound/ performance( i know i wont feel much performance now but im talking down the road...)

on the stock turbo it really wont make that much of a difference. when and if you upgrade the turbo, and are trying to get the highest numbers possible, then yes the 2.5" piping will be restrictive if you heavily modify the engine.

Why do you want a straight pipe? If your reason is for the sound, no, the 2.5 pipe won't really matter. However, if you are going straight pipe for maximum exhaust flow, then yes, of course it will be more restrictive.

Or you could have someone take apart the stock muffler, weld in a straight pipe, and put the muffler back together...

But that would be wrong... sound good, but wrong.....
