stock head unit has 6 wires going to the stock sub - why 6?

does anyone know if you can use the stock 6cd head unit to drive an aftermarket subwoofer that has its own amp (like a bazoka from crutchfield to mount in the trunk)? The stock sub has a wiring harness that has 6 wires going to it? I know one of the wires is power, maybe one is a ground?, and a third is the sub signal...what are the other 3 for? Does anyone know what each wire does? thanks for any info.

i'm pretty sure one is ground.

seriously though, one for a remote, to turn the sub on when the radio is turned on. and you'd need two for the sub signal. so that leaves one extra wire. < shrug >
