Hey, just got home from the preview and...DAMN! You have GOT to see this thing in person! Very beautiful! I took a lot of pictures, but it looks as if my USB cord is messed up, so everyone who attended and took pics, post them here! For those of you who werent there, we got to sit in the car, play with everything, meet Mark Lovell, autographs, posters, hats, stickers 8) VERY nice show! Hope everyone liked it as much as I did!

charchar, didn't get a chance to meet you...I met Alfredob1 and ScoobyDo there! Yep it was awesome, I was surprised they had buffet brunch tables for us, as if it was a big awards ceremony!

No new specs, they just reiterated what we already knew. Some of the guys seemed to know even less than us! I fielded some of the questions on the "Questions for SOA reps" to them and didn't get many answers. Brad, an SOA rep, mentioned the history of the North American Impreza that began a few years ago with the introduction of the 2.5 RS and has culminated with the STi. And they weren't stopping either...A turbo Forrester is coming in August (correct me if I'm wrong, anyone who was there) and it would be called the XT.

In addition to the STi, ESX and Prodrive were there with their modified WRX's. Prodrive did not currently have a kit for the STi (cmon now, it just arrived here!) but as soon as they got to check out the ECU they would have something. ESX had some nice rides there too...

One thing I didn't like is that there is no trunk pass-through. Supposedly that's a feature that adds weight too, and there were further hints that the STi's weight would be close to the WRX's. Mark Lovell only knew the weight in kilos of the WRC car: 1200...which computes to roughly 2645 lbs. Of course it only has 2 seats...Brad mentioned that the audio system was left out to bring the car under the gas guzzler status, so that gives you some idea of how much the car will weigh. Other than that, all of our questions remain unanswered. :(

The rear passenger windows were thinner, but the front passenger and driver windows appeared to be of the same thickness as the WRX's.

The headlights had an adjustable tilt feature, I think Alfredob1 got some video of that. They even turned on the car for us and revved it a few times in the museum! At the very end of the show, we were treated to seeing the STi drive out of the museum, and got a taste of its speed!

I will be uploading my pics so please check back for updates :)

Wow you guys were lucky to sit in it and here it start and and watch it take off. I was in Detroit yesterday the car looked amazing. But we were unable to sit in it or get a close look inside since it was all roped off and etc. It seemed to me that the people talking about the car really didnt know a whole lot about it (at least the two ladies I saw talk about it, the guy wasnt bad, yeah I listened to the speech at least 4 or 5 times while I was there) I really think I could have stood up there with the mic and told a lot more about the STi then what she could read off of her scribbled notes.

They did say that those rims and tires that were on the car would be standard which were the BBS's and the re070's she said it will probably redline between 7,500-8,000 rpm. The only thing that really discouraged me and made me rethink buying is that they all said the price was going to be in the mid 30's (ouch ) I se mid 30's as 33,500-36,500 which I think is overpricing to stay competitive. I asked them to elaborate on the price but all they would say is mid 30's.

I did take a bunch of pics but I have no way to post them or get them online very sorry. But they probably are all ones we have seen before.

Yeah those reps seemed to know less than we did...

redline between 7500 and 8000? The tach shows that redline is at 7000! I would take alot of what they said with a grain of salt. I wish SOA (and any other car manufacturer) would have a technical guy up there telling us all the details and hardware of the cars, instead of these sales marketing guys that probably don't understand half of what they're quoting.

Yea they really need to be more informed she was constantly pausing and looking inside the car for things to talk about it and she was only talking about it for about 2 miutes. Very poor sounding on their part.

That's just some sort of fill in. There's no armrest in the back seat either. I'd imagine that you could swap in the WRX rear seats but then you'd have to somehow get the escaine fabric off the STi's and put them there. Perhaps someone will make a seat that can do that. Ironically, my WRX then has more carrying capacity...I can probably carry up to 6 snowboards in mine with the roof rack (2 through the pass-through), and with that same rack on the STi I'd only be able to carry the 4. Funny, when I mentioned that one of the guys said "A roof rack on an STi??"

What, is it bad? You'd think I said I want to swap an unpainted-high-school-metal-shop spoiler for the STi one!

STiFan - I was there the whole time from 10 am until about 1:30 pm when the STi drove off. Go to the Western Preview pics thread and you'll see a link to my pics, I have a couple of them with me sitting in the driver's seat. :)

It appears that the car shown has the climate control system as opposed to the standard A/C. Anyone know if that will be coming over on the final version?

Also, I really like the wheels they have on the Prodrive cars. They don't appear to be P7's. Anyone know what they are?
