what is this turbo lag everyone speaks of? on a street car there is not REALLY noticeable lag b/c hello, it IS a STREET car after all.

i mean, if you're LOOKING for problems youll find them. but the WRX was the first turbo car ive driven, and dont compare it to an RX-7 because thats a rotary so the motors spool differently.

Turbo lag is the waiting time between the turbo starting to make boost and turbo reaching full boost. On the new gen WRX Sti, full boost can come on at 4000+ rpm. But this is all dependant on how you look at it. I would guess this figure was obtained from a standing start, 1st gear.

In 3rd or 4th gears for instance, full boost could be reached quicker because of more load.

Please explain your "no noticeable lag on a street" theory? I would have thought it was most noticeable on a street, less noticeable on a track?

so you drive around hauling ass everywhere you go? the turbo lags not evident b/c im not flooring it from the light or racing every civic that passes. when i want my boost ill downshift to 2nd. at cruise the turbo is useless, still functioning but at a static level. turbos/superchargers only work while accelerating. so going the speedlimit does no good for either. i dont as i said go from point a to point b at WOT. i drive my car. not my racecar.

yes it is spooling and making minor boost, but its being bled off by the wastegate. so it isnt making any boost to the motor. and SC have idler gears so they WONT work whilst cruising.

not bashing either, just saying that if youre not just a "got r i c e" racer(JJ why cant i type the word ****?) then turbo lag really isnt evident because your not hotrodding around. all cars have lag of some form. my NA beetle has lag before it gets into its operational powerband. my truck has lag at part throttle. not just turbos. i mean, maybe a lil, but it wont cost you a race, b/c if your turbo is big enough to give you lag then its big enough to make up for it.
