Hey guys,

Well, my brother Ryan, one of the Master Subaru Tech's at Rancho Grande Motors in San Luis Obispo, CA just came back from his usual "New Model Update and Information" 2 day training course for the Forester Turbo and the STi. Anyways, here are just a few cool facts that the regional Subaru instructor informed him about the STi:

1. The STi's transmission was DESIGNED(not mass produced) by Porsche for Subaru.

2. The second gear has 3 synchro's and is essentially "beefed up" along with the rest of transmission to handle the power of the 2.5 turbo..translation...easier to "light 'em up" from a dead stop.

3. The STi clutch has 900lb pounds more holding force than that of a regular WRX...meaning mild mods won't phase the clutch.

Let me repeat once again, these are STRAIGHT from the Subaru Tech Training Center in Ontario, CA.

That is very intriguing, Subaru and Porsche working together at the design level. Hmm. If your brother gets any material that can be scanned... well, we would be very grateful if you would post it here.

Thanks again!

Subaru Australia were openly saying the new 6-speed box is a porsche design hoping it would comfort some buyers as the 5 speed was consistantly broken.

Porsche hasn't designed their own trannys (bad syncro's on P-trans) since 1987. Their stuff is Getrag designed (at least 911/Boxster stuff) Porsche engineering may have thrown their two cents in, but I know they don't design their own trans in full.
