Thanks, that is a fun read! My brother had been looking at the CLA45 several years ago but was really p.o.'d that the curb weight kept getting higher and higher as it got closer to release, and he dropped it completely when it ended up significantly >3500 lb. Interesting that these models have been shaved lower - the article says it's 34xx after multiplying it out from kg, and that is as a hatchback. More power + lighter is always good. Given the chance, I'd even lose the 19's and keep it on 18's.
However the prospect of a better STI would be even nicer. 400 / 400 is the target, less lag, good, I'd even accept a DCT.

Any car company is capable of building a fast car, but only a few knows how to and are willing to make the sacrifice to capture the art, magic and passion of motoring. Subaru has done a good job doing just that with their WRX lineup, especially with the STI and the S-series. They may be of older technologies and underpower by today's standard, but they make you look forward to your next trip, even if it is only 5 minutes away to your local supermarket.

The EJ will be around for another year. Maybe two?

That's just lame IMO. From that article, "It’s our guess the new STI would get in the range of 325-350 horsepower, similar to the exclusive limited edition S209 STI pumping out 341 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque. This would put the new STI in line to compete with the new Volkswagen Golf R reported to be coming with 328 horsepower...."
You don't want to compete with it, you want to /dominate/ it. Take the STI from "near-supercar" to Supercar! The Golf R was rumored to be testing at 400HP like 4 years ago, then it got neutered down. So tired of run of the mill ponycars being faster. Moah powah!

Makes sense, don't think STI will get neat 400, most likely 350ish. It would need a decent price increase to entertain over 350hp.

STI should keep improving the manual IMO. It's what they got going for them. Something similar to porsche 7 speed, launch control, rev match, no lift shift. DCT raises the price quite a bit.
