I've heard that a rear antenna is the worst reception position and I'm starting to believe it. I got my new head unit for the car and I can't believe how bad my reception is. What is strange is that some local stations come in fine and others are horrible. Has anyone else had bad reception experiences?

I paid over sticker!

I haven't seen the problem with the 04MY RS or WRX, though. ALL Imprezas have the antenna in the same spot. Maybe there is something different in the wiring for the STi...?

I find I have better reception in my STi than what I had in my WRX.

WRX had stock Subie radio the STi has an Alpine 9807 HU.

I am going to have to get a changer. I liked having 6 discs in the dash. I will either get one under the seat or put one of the smaller ones in the dash in the second DIN slot.

Is there a power lead to an antenna amplifier that needs 12V? The windshield antennas in Porsches have an amplifier to boost the signal. Haven't done the audio install on mine yet, so don't know for sure, but sounds like something to check.

DEALER SAYS CREDIT UNION ILLEGAL???

I like NPR but I hate how liberal it is. When they had a discussion with a sports announcer saying we (americans) were being biggots to Hispanic baseball players because we didn't speak spanish, I just about lost it. Can you imagine how unfair it is that we pay someone over a million dollars to play a sport, and then ask them to learn the language or hire a tranlator. I feel so bad I can hardly live with myself.

I think this convo died a while ago, but i was just wondering...

Since the 04 WRX and RS are built in the US and the STi is built in GUNMA JAPAN, I was thinking, maybe the wiring for the radio in the STi is set in japanese mode. The frequency in japan and in the states i think are different.

To say this in extreme, in FM, i think japan goes from 50 to 80 mghz and the us goefrom 80 to 115?? not really sure. dont listen to anything other than 92.3 in NY.

Just a thought...

I had an outstanding company do the install on my system. There is an antenna amplifier. The placement is the question, but they do not think that it takes any additional boosting. I had an Alpine system put in, and live in NJ. He said that some of the problem is the thinner window and the low grade antenna that is stock, I can get all FM and some but not all AM. I put in XM anyway. If radio is important, add a separate antenna was his suggestion. SFRinNJ
