Hi all,

Does anyone know what the true BHP on a 100% stock MY2001 WRX STI JPN spec is, is it over 300 ??

Besides a mph restrictor is there a performance etc restrictor on the JPN spec ???

What do I need to buy or do to get rid of the restrictor ???

I'm pretty sure it is over 300; I've heard numbers like 320.

It is around 315-320. The 280HP is a gentleman's agreement in Japan between the manufacturers.. :smile:

The main differences I can gather between a Japanese and UK STi are:

1) More restrictive exhaust. (More cats)
2) A little bit of a different ECU map.

This means that the 315-320HP range will maybe be as easy as a turbo-back and replacement ECU. :smile:

Hi JJ and all,

My car is a Japanese spec so I dont need to change exhaust or ECU to achieve 310 - 320 correct ??

It should come with that bhp 100% stock from Japan ...no ??

And I thought I read somewhere about the cars in Japan beng limited to 112 mph ??

Take it out for a spin and tell us :smile: I have heard you have a limiter, not sure to what level. some ECU programing would remove it.

the good thing is, all good cars have lower than real hp. that gentlemens agreement dosent only apply to japan. for example, the 02 SS camaro has closer to 350hp from a rated 325. albeit not as much as the 276 to 320. would it be possible to get a prodrive ECU? ive heard that prodrive is only a few odds & ends that they tweaked. that would makes sense b/c there's really not too much more to do w/ the stock setup. you have the japan edition so check w/ prodrive. try and get it sent there before you get it sent to you. what a treat, you're at sea level or close right? lots of O2 for that turbo to inhale. you might get more hp w/ all that oxygen density.
