Hey guys Im new to the forum and I have a couple questions, Ive heard that the STi will either have 260 or probably 280hp. I also have a feeling that it will cost about $30000 US. That said I think it would be crazy to buy an STi. The reason I say this is for one reason, I read an article in Super Street where they take a standard WRX, add a perfomance filter, a NURSPEC exhaust and a blitz boost controler and get 227hp at the wheels which is about 283hp. The total cost being under $1500 I think. So then tell me why spend all kinds of money on an STi not to mention extra insurance costs to have a little pink badge on your WRX. I understand that the STi has better suspension and brakes and a nicer interior but is it really worth $8000, I think not!!!

Will the tranny hold for that 1500 power upgrade? Will you be able to stop as soon as you get up to speed? How about the suspension?

It's not only about horsepower....

I personally showed a WRX that on a roadcourse just a while back with my 2.5RS.

No one can convince you otherwise. You will only see the light when you actually drive an STi.
You just cannot compare a modded WRX to the STi.
Wait till they are launched over there and then test drive one and then decide for yourself.

dude..... the motor has coated forged pistons, forged con rods, forged this, forged that....the WRX *only* (still not bad though) has forged (not coated) pistons. i beleive, JJ you can confirm or deny this, the STi has a semi closed block, hollow sodium(?) filled exhaust valves, higher rate cam, more agressive ECU map, bigger exhaust, bigger turbo, $6000+ dollars on Brembo brakes alone, STi inverted struts/springs on Aluminium control arms that alone is $1800 from subaru for the WRX but comes uninstalled, STi strut tower brace, synchronous mesh 6 speed tranny similar to the WRC but w/o brass bearings im sure, MOMO throughout the interior, a BUILT IN programable shiftlight... $8000...yeah right, add all that up and its another WRX or at least an RS... but go ahead, get the WRX. itll let someone else kick your ass in their STi that only has suspension....

sorry for ranting JJ....

bullet, you in AUS? i wish to move there and need to know what to expect, other than a kick ass place to live.

Hey Buddy, where's your Tim Taylor TOoltime "More Power" grunting?

All that the STi has to offer is better than porn.

Also, if it only costs $30k, that will be a blessing.

I believe Aussie (as is here) is more car friendly with regards to MODSSSS!

(I know that's an enviroment unfriendly statement so please, no flames)

To further make my point:

The STi engine is (from the factory) a semi closed deck block.

You also get:

Sodium-filled exhaust valves
Hollow intake valves
Titanium Valve Springs
Forged pistons
And I believe the heads are ported and polished..

Bigger Turbo
6-Speed Tranny
Inverted Struts
Brembo Brakes
Aluminum Control Arms
Stronger Suspension Bushings
Big intercooler with water spray
STi seats with sticky Alcantara
Shift light
Nice shifter

Anyone not willing to pay $8000.00 for the above has got to be nuts.

Plus, a WRX is 24,000 Base, and if the STi comes in at 30,000, it's only an extra $6000. YOu show me the place where I can get ALL of the above stuff (or equivelent) for 8K, and I will eat my words and shut down the site (well maybe not that).. SHOW ME!

And for that same $1500 you would put into a WRX, you could put WAY more than 227 to the wheels and have everything above. And not to worry, because the tranny and engine will take the extra boost, no problem....

i added up all of the extra parts to make a complete STi clone. conservatively its 63000 w/ the WRX. again, this is lowballing the figure. i figured the motor to be $8500 but its more likely $12000. that 63000. thats a lil more than 8000. again, that would barely cover the brembos...and they aint small like the EVO.

Yeah, what they said! Also, I wouldn't believe everything you read in SuperStreet. They are the armpit/butthole of the performance car magazine world. Seems like they are only interested in big wings, graphics, fake intercoolers, and fake rear discbrakes! Just my opinion of there tech know how. (Although I have been guilty of buying a few issues of there magazine myself!)

What Bullet said and more. We've got a big car scene here, the biggest problems are with insurance companies. Here the WRX is the gettaway car of choice so insurance can be costly. But if like me, you've got a good record and live in the bush, it's no big deal.
