OK, stop me if you've heard this one:

I am #1 on a waiting list at a good dealer, so if the STI comes I should get one. However, seeing the time frame (at least a year from now) I am now having second thoughts. Is anyone else thinking "Hey, why don't I just sink a few thousand into my WRX/2.5RS and have a car that's at least as fast as the STI right now?

Am I having second thoughts? No- and here's why:

Turbo Kit- 5,000 +
TEC-II- 2,500
Dog-Box- 5,000 (STi 6 speed 12,000)
Lower compression pistons- ??
Upgraded Diffs- 3,500
Brembo Brakes- 3,000
17" Lightweight wheels and tires- 2,000
Race seats- 2,000

That's how much I would have to spend to turbocharge my RS the right way, where it would be reliable and produce 250+ horspower. Eventually I want to get to 400HP. I bet that you can get there cheaper overall and more reliably with a new STi than with any RS..

I dont see how an STI can compare to an RS. The WRX and the STI have similarities, but the RS and STI are 2 different cars. It just wouldnt be cost effective. Id rather take a brand new STI and make it 400HP

Exactly.

I have had too many friends also with RS-T's that have just become a money pit. First the clutch goes, then the tranny, then the engine..

I also have had friends with WRX's that are having problems tranny wise also.

I would rather get an STi, which will have a good amount of power to start with. It's a great base for big power..
