Re: Stealth-baru! 2012 OBP Wingless "family sedan": New rims/Lips Ordered!

Just read through your whole thread. Great car, great work! It's awesome to see someone else with similar goals/circumstances as me who puts good time and thought into it. Plus i can certainly relate to the challenges of a young family and having the time and resources to play around with your car (my daughter just turned 1 this past weekend).

Looks like you guys have a good little group up there. I try to get to Montreal/Quebec City at least once a year (usually for F1 weekend unless the wife wants to take a trip) so maybe we can get a little meet going sometime. I'd love to meet you guys and see your cars.

PS, start thinking about picking up side skirts. I think you'll want them once you get the lip and diffuser on.
Yea I am eager to get a little meet the gang around here myself;
have only had the pleasure of meeting Dspin_1080, the owner of the
glorious LP700R, who is a real class act. The rest of the gang will have
to get together sometime this summer most definitely. Let us know if you
on your way to mtl :)

Hopefully ill get some more free time as the summer starts, my son was
born March 16th, so things have been quite busy lately on the home front.
Just recently did I eek out some car detailing/scratch removal time. Once the
routine gets more settled I'm hoping to meet S1monQc and bboytaktix who live
in the area.

I already have the side skirts picked out, just waiting to see how the
stuff looks installed. Dunno why, but something tells me I will prefers
without the side skirts. Then again, could be completely wrong. I find
out next week!

Re: Stealth-baru! 2012 OBP Wingless "family sedan": New rims/Lips Ordered!

HT Auto Front lip+rear lips+rear diffuser arrived today!

Install is back on track for Monday, April 21rst. Was waiting on
the Swift Springs (4F907R) from Touge Tuning. Sadly they were
back ordered. A last minute scramble, and I ordered them from elsewhere.
They will arrive Friday.

Chris at Touge will credit me for the springs. Great customer service,
definitely will order from there again.

Also found my Stage 2 dyno chart (buried in papers from a recent house move).
Will post it on my first page of journal.

Anyway, without further ado, the stuff that arrived today:

Also, ordered the Subtle Solutions front plate delete today:

Thinking I will lay down a red background behind
the STI and border for effect when installed.

None of my non sti owning friends are as knowledgeable or passionate on the subject of this car as the people I have met on these forums lol. Always great to make new friends who can share interests, in our case the wrx/sti which is pretty much the quintessential car to own around these parts if u ask me.:D

Very nice Alex! I am very curious to see these installed, and in person! I have no doubt that it will be a rewarding sight.

Re: Stealth-baru! 2012 OBP Wingless "family sedan": New rims/Lips arrived!

I want to see all those goodies installed!

Advice on the turbo, I have the Dom 1.5xtr and while I really like the smooth power delivery and an easy 370whp (21 psi). The spool is not what I would call "very fast".

Just one persons experience, I drove myself insane with research when I was turbo shopping.

Thnx for the feedback on the Dom 1.5xtr. What you say is the vibe I was getting about it.

When does it spool in your case?

Correct me if I am wrong, but looking at your dyno graph it seems it kicks in around 4k,
with torque maxing out to 360ish at around 4750 rpm. My dyno graph tells me
that me that I am peaking 374 lbf.ft at around 3700rpm. Comparing graphs
seems rediculous;
I refuse to believe that my stage 2 is reaching higher torque than your built setup.
I read your build, there is just no way.

I am in the midst of driving myself insane with turbo research,
so I know exactly what you mean. The more dyno graphs I go through,
the more confused I am lol.

It seems I have yet to find a graph that shows a setup that spools as fast,
or faster than stock while maintaining power/torque to redline; maybe I am
not reading things right. All built setups have waaay more top end hp and torque,
no doubt, but it seems non I have yet seen reach the same torque/spool at
(3500ish rpm) as the stock setup.

Maybe I am crazy to think that it is possible to achieve at least the same
torque as stock at 3k rpm (instead of 3500) while getting the increased top end
torque/hp that a better turbo/built setup brings. Gonna keep looking. Maybe twin
scroll is the answer; I still have much research to do. :notsure:

Re: Stealth-baru! 2012 OBP Wingless "family sedan": New rims/Lips arrived!

There are a few from Borg Warner that caught my eye.

Here are the 4 from borg warner that seem like the ones
that should be in consideration for the 400 whp target:

-EFR 6258 smallest and fastest spooling of the bunch. Single scroll, compatible with my ewg setup (me thinks?) Less top end power than the ones below.

-EFR 6758 seems to have iwg setup. I already have ewg (Tial 44mm), custom piping setup.
Apparently spools like vf39, if not 100-200rpm slower.

-EFR 7163 (new for 2014), single scroll, spools not as quickly as the 6758

-EFR 7064 twin scroll, fastest spooling due to twin scroll? More reading to do...

This thread seems directly on subject:
http://www.iwsti.com/forums/2-5-liter-litre-factory-motor/205612-efr-turbos-vs-gtx-turbos-12.html

And then this from nasioc:

I like the idea of the 7163 stock location.

The torque specs that the Lachute Performance's MAHA dyno gives you isn't WTQ but crank TQ...

So you gotta lower that result but 15-20% to get your WTQ value...

Correct me if I'm wrong

Re: Stealth-baru! 2012 OBP Wingless "family sedan": New rims/Lips arrived!

The Nasioc discussion I linked above talks about all 3

-EFR 6258
-EFR 6758
-EFR 7163

It is unfortunate that the 6758 already comes with the iwg setup. It was mentioned
a few times, however, that the dimensions of these turbos will likely require a
custom downpipe/uppipe. If I had to to redo those anyway on any of the borg warner
turbos, then the 6758 is back in contention.

It also seems like the 6258 should not be discounted. Clearly the fastest spooling
of the single scroll choices, it only has a ~10hp less potential than the 6758, according
to the nasioc review.

That must be it Simon.

They put whp, dunno why they would not put wtq.

I'm curious to see the numbers on your stage 2 setup;

its so hard to compare charts from different dynos/tuners.

I honestly feel like it spools sooner than that on the street, not stock spool, but sooner than 4k. Holds very nice to redline as well. Also, it's only on 21 psi so the turbo really isn't in it's efficiency range yet.... yet

I think you are right to look at the BW turbo's, they are looking very impressive. They just weren't in my price range when I was looking.

Consider looking into the gtx 3071r or 3076r as well (if you haven't yet ). My tuner loves those and has had good luck with them.

In the end, you can only make a decision, don't be afraid to make a "wrong" decision because every turbo and setup has it's advantages and disadvantages. Even though my setup doesn't wow anyone with the graph, it's fun as hell to drive and that's what is important!

Thnx for the feedback.

I know my tuner/shop (Lachute Performance) is fond of the gtx3076r.

I still, however, cannot deny the reviews im reading about those borg warner turbos.

They price is up there, especially since they require their own unique downpipe/uppipe, but its just seems the way to go for my goals. This build:

http://www.iwsti.com/forums/gr-members-journals/235395-2012-white-pearl-sti-boss-efr-7163-installed-such-delays-much-subaru-such-wow.html

featuring the efr 7163 makes me nervous, but not enough to discount the borg warner turbos. Poor guy seems to have experienced all kinds of delays due to the build, although it seems they are not directly due to the turbo, but rather several variables.

This whole car modding thing is complex. Im just gonna call it and buy a f12 Berlinetta or Aventadore. In my dreams.

Picked up my new summers today. They are purdy.
Not to mention FAT, and sticky.

Here they are; Re-11 in 265/35/18

A comparison to the Stock Dunlop 245s:

well...yes and no. Yes in the sense that we are pretty much through with snow fall for this year (had light snow last Wednesday but all positive temps from here out) but no in the sense that the roads are still a bit dirty for those who baby their car/rims enough to care :p I would say another week or wtv but depends on the person :p at night the temps tend to dip down close to freezing so not great for performance tires but depends on what driving you do :D
