I don't know if Europe uses them much, and I don't think that they'd be needed in either Japan or Australia, so I don't know if a remote starter would be a problem installing on the STi. Apparently, the factory wiring is set up for a certain category of alarm, but what about a starter? Around here, we usually get snow, in some manner, until June or so. Granted, the cold weather gives us 100-102kPa (sea level air pressure), but running out to start the car in -30 C isn't fun.

I heard a little while ago that soon it will be illegal to install starters on manual transmission cars; perhaps that's only in Canada. Would that interfere with a turbo timer?

Can someone enlighten me?

In other news, I recently got to talk to the lead driver for the rally in Edson this weekend. He showed me the ins and outs of the STi Type-RA he got to drive, and the homologation papers (hehe) for the Variant Option 1 (Type RA) and the WRC. He said that the cars had been left outside overnight in Quebec, sometime this past winter. On the import he had, the water tank was originally mounted in the engine bay, but had been moved to the back 'seat' (like in the WRC). The AUS model has it in the trunk, so I'm wondering where our's will be. Apparently, the IC water spray warmed right up the next morning. He claimed that it didn't freeze, and even suggested that one could add antifreeze. I told him what that meant, but I couldn't get a clear answer out of him.
He also said that the car (it might have been just the RA) DID, in fact, have a quicker steering rack. Something I read somewhere said that the reduction of lock-to-lock from 3.3 to 3.0 was a result of the steering range being slightly limited. The RA does actually have a 2.8; perhaps our STi will, too. Bullet: do you notice a quicker steering?

Not to be a downer but I heard remote starters can be problamatic. I've heard they just don't work great (maybe they were just cheap). The other thing is an alarm. Maybe that was their problem. I live in Michigan so I've got a little interest in this too. I don't like warming my car up.
