Hello all,

I've read through the audio threads but still have a question:
Where can I find a listing of the size and location of the stock speaker
mounts? I'm interested in the '04 STi so that I can start pricing things out now.

I remember years back seeing diagrams showing speaker sizes and their locations for every vehicle and found it useful but I have not had any luck in finding anything for even the standard WRX's ('02-'03 model years).

The speaker sizes and locations should be the same as the current WRX. Crutchfield should be able to give you the details.

Crutchfield's site is only returning rear door speakers when I list a '03 WRX. Front door comes in blank but I had assumed that there are front mounts. Im interested in finding out if there are front mounts for 1"-2" tweeters as well as a back center mount for an 8"-10" driver.

I've checked Crutchfield before and I swear it listed components for the front, but now they only list the rear speaks..

Dunno. Where's Murley at? He can go out and look at one of his.

Okay, I don't know the specific specs but they are located in the doors. In the driver and passenger door control panels, that house the window and lock switches, there is a mounting spot once the molding curves vertical where the tweeters are mounted. The standard speaker placment for the front doors is in the same location that the back doors are. The front speakers are smaller, though. If you would like me to try and get a schematic or some technical diagrams, just let me know.

Thanks Murley. Any info would help. I'm mostly interested in the sizes. For example: 4" round in front, 6x9 in back. Also, can you find out if there are any rear-deck mounts? I'm toying with the idea of adding an 8" driver back there. Please excuse me if these are elementary questions...I've not had to look into car audio since the 70's!

Yeah, specs would be cool. Even with slight modifications, it would be really nice to have a component set in the front and some 6's in the back for filler.

I'm thinking some component sets up front and in back. Boston makes a nice setup that allows you to mount the tweeter on top of the woofer, which would be perfect for the rear.

Okay, after much digging, here's what I found. I went to the service dept and scanned some service manuals for schematics..., here they are...

I then went to the parts dept and looked in the system for size info. The comp didn't say, just said Panasonic. That's it. Sooo, without taking the door off of a non-sold unit I can't find it. I may find a Subaru online parts catalog that might help though. I'll look.

Here's another good shot of the tweeter location. Isn't this the same as it has been for all the WRXs?

Yes. And the normal speaker is just below that and to the right...., just out of sight.

It looks like there is a mouting bracket for the tweeters. I'm going to assume this doesn't come with the STi. To install tweeters in this location do you guys think this part will have to be ordered. I want to say yes, but I've never really done speaker installations before, just the head unit. Also can connectors that go to the stock speaker connector be bought so I can use the stock wiring and make it clean?

I think that in the Impreza line, the "bracets" are really just holes in the door panel where you would screw in the screws.
