on a lighter note...i've got about four months to figure out how to keep "my" long awaited STI from either being stolen or having the rear spoilers ripped off. i've never owned a car that i had to worry about. what's the latest *effective* tech?

Actually this topic has been on my mind as well.

I have a friend who has an Integra Type R and it has been broken into once with the steering column ripped open etc (like 2k worth of damage), emblems taken once, and just last night someone slashed his tires.

This seems to be a curse with highly "wanted" or "noticable" cars. Type Rs have been having this problem since day 1.

Will the STI be in the same danger?

Preventing the car from being stolen is one thing. Preventing damage from break-ins, vandalism, etc, is another. Only something like a pager alarm or Lo-jack's early warning system (not avail in all areas) would be the best you could do. You could run outside and still not catch the guy in time...

My STi will be going directly from the lot to a stereo shop down the road to have installed the best alarm they have. I do live just outside in a fairly small city, but I trust NO ONE! I would like to install a system on the car that, if broken into, would pummel the assailant into a bloody pulp, drive to the nearest police station to drop off the dismembered carcass, clean itself, them return itself safely to my driveway. Either that or I would find some way to never leave the car - some office space installed in the backseat, folding rear seats to expose a sleeping area. But thats just me. I am obsessed. Steal my car you had better run goddammit!

i share that emotion.

i would think that some security company would have implemented biometrics of some sort; voice recognition, thumb print, etc. after three tries, the system would disable the car and "call" for help.

ON the serious note, I will definately be installing a nice alarm and using a brake lock or something similar. I might even take the STi emblems off so that someone else doesn't do it for me with a screwdriver..

For those of you who remember the movie Naked Gun 33 1/3, you guys should have the "Denver Jockstrap" installed on your STi.

About 6-7 years ago, the company that invented tasers actually had a device like the club, that attached to the steering wheel. After being activated with a key, when jostled, an alarm would sound. After 10 seconds of the alarm, it would send 50,000volts through the length of the bar. It would be great to run across one of those.

That shock club does nothing for vandalism or someone who just wanted what's in the backseat, or what they may have seen you put in the trunk...You need that hi voltage thing on the body of the car so that it'll shock perpetrators who touch the car. That still doesn't stop someone from egging or throwing a rock at the car though. For that, you need active debris tracking lasers that'll vaporize anything that is headed toward the car. Definitely good for would-be pigeon turd bombers :lol:

Anyone ever see that flame thrower alarm that was going around car forums a couple years ago? When the alarm was tripped it shot flames out form under the car on each side.

How 'bout something like Stephen King's "Christine"...

Someone steals it, the car just kills them. Someone wrecks it, the car just bends all its own sheet metal and fixes itself back up like new.

I guess it would be OK if you could live with a car that's pure evil and jealous of all your girlfriends.
