Since I have heard of piston rods shooting through people's hoods, it brought up a question. I will have a serious problem if the "horizontally opposed" boxer engine blows a rod into the cabin of my vehicle. I, being the "health nut" that I am, am VERY picky about what goes into my body, and a 2 foot long metal rod (covered in molybidneum(sp?) or not) could be considered detrimental to the regimen I am on. Anyone else have any concerns? :p

So has any one heard seriously about this. That would send up a loud stop sign for a whole lot of really pricey cars that use those pistons and rods, and I can't remember seeing anything big anywhere. But even little stories get their start somewhere!SFRinNJ

Re: Timing the delivery of an STi

Uh......rods flying at the face sleepover. Remind us never to go to sleepovers with you!

And if the rod thing really scares your friend.....show him to the nearest Mazda dealer and ask for an RX-7 or 8. That'll fix that problem!

Well, I do know that my boss had a Impala SS (the huge one back in 97) and he had a 200hp NOS shot in it...he ended up popping the piston&rod through his hood. Said it scared the living daylights out of him and left a nice little hole in his hood.

So it does happen. :)

Anything can happen to idiots........ 200 shot huh?

Engines don't blow when they are built right. Unless you are an F1 driver with the world's most advanced engine that is walking the wire on physics......this should never be a concern.
