STi style gauge

And let me dispel one rumor that even I was guilty of:

The STi seats WILL FIT the vast majority of the US population. How can I say that? Well, lets just, um, say I myself am big boned. :) And I fit just fine. They are a little snug, but still are the most comfortable and useful sport seats I have ever sat in. The material is NICE! 100 times better and more luxurious than leather IMNSHO. :) I can't wait to get this car more and more! I am sick and tired of waiting! :D

It is interesting to note that the only place they felt really snug is through the shoulders. They seem like they MIGHT have actually a wider bottom than US WRX seats.

The only reason for SOA not to bring them on the STi is because of the no side-airbag thing. I for one could care less about side-airbags, how bout you? :D

STi six speed trannies look so nice...

Side airbags would be nice, but if I had to choose I would have to take the STi seats over ones with side airbags. Encase we might have to buy them on our own, what would a set of STi seats cost?

Side airbags are nice, yes. However, having a seat that gives excellent lateral support in high-G turns mreans that you'll be less likely to lose control of the car. Maybe side airbags were intended more for typical side collisions, but swerving around deer and flipping your car ;) is also a good reason for them...

I agree with you on the side airbags and I will go one step further; remove all of the airbags.

I would rather have a homologous frame, roll cage, etc. and a 5 point racing harness. This is a performance vehicle not a granny mobile.

Truth be known, I will also be driving this car to work, so I will make do in whatever configuration it ships.

However, If one of these airbags goes off during a rally race (after the warranty expires of course) I am not going to be happy. I have been hit by one of these bags during a 65mph freeway collision. It is a little like getting in the ring with a heavy weight boxer that has fists the size of a microwave oven.

I would rather have the racing harness. (I know, a mod for later...)

OK, this is what I want to know: The bottom, as opposed to the back, of the WRX seats have, as they go from the middle to the outside, a somewhat sharp incline. I.e. if you could look from the front, it would be...

\____/

That really digs into the side of my legs when I've driven the WRX. Do the STi seats have this dramatic of a side-support? The old-style RS does not have this, and I may be the only one that likes the old RS seats better.

It really sounds like they are kick-ass seats. Why oh why does the date have to keep getting moved back? At this rate, it will be a real 2004, arriving next fall. :(

gear ratios

danc,
The bottom of the seats are sharp to hold you in, but not too bad. The STi seats are very comfortable...very snuggable :D

I am 6'4" and I weigh 240m and I didn't have any problems with comfort or fit.

hate to do this...

I am one annoyed Aussie !!! i owned a 2000 wrx in Syd before moving to USA. The standard seats everywhere else in the world except USA and Canada are same shape as the new STi seats will be when they get here. I'm 6' and 200pds and after only 5 mins of driving the current US wrx my legs hurt as i can fell the 2 seat braces on the bottom cuting into the bottom of my thighs. The seats that will FINALLY be available when the Sti get here are amazingly comfortable ...especially compared to what is standard now on the US wrx.....awesome seats. Why didn't SOA insist on the same standard seat as everywhere else in the world???...even Chile have the upgraded seat as standard!!!
