Just got a call from a Subaru salesman here in Portland who went to the auto show. He spoke with some people who told him production for US would only be 500 units. I asked him who told him that and he said Dan Hayes and Tom LaJoy (spelling is approximate). Have no idea who these people are.

I'm still more likely to believe 1700, but since I've seen 500 mentioned once or twice before thought I'd mention it.

I just can't believe that. Mitsubishi is supposedly going to bring 10,000 Evos or more, and Subaru is probably going to want to compete with that number. I bet if Subie gets enough demand for the Sti, they will bring in over 3,000.

Just my thoughts,

It seems to me that each Subaru salesrep is each required to quote a different amount of STi's coming to US shores and different horsepower figures and different prices. If you ask me, I think this is Subaru's plan to create a confusion that will get people talking about it and arguing over it in order to get word of mouth and hype up. But then again I am probably way off base here.

I heard it through Car and Driver when Mitsu introduced the Evo VII. Lancer fans were irritated because Japan is going to mass produce it like the Camaro SS and make like 40,000 of them. 10,000 of which are said to be coming to the states depending on sales.

I just looked at the population of the U.S. for kicks and found that there is 286,432,938 people living in America, (approx) even if mitsubishi releases 10000 evos here, and sells them all, that is only going to be 1:28,643.2938 (evo:American)

But if Subaru brings 1700 STi's to bear upon the US, the ratio of STi's to Americans with STi's will be 1:168,489.963

Most Americans will never see the STi, and the ones that do see it, will probably not know what it is and what it is capable of... I think we need to combine forces and send a representative to talk with SOA ourselves and see to it that at least all registered members of ImprezaWRXSTI.com have the opportunity to buy one.

I am in full agreement also. Latest word I have on production is no more than 1700, and possibly with priority going to current and previous Impreza owners or on a first order, first served basis...
