To build or not to build....
I just picked up a '11 wrx with high miles (200k) for suuuuuuper cheap off a family friend. I have '19 STI as well so this or my other car will become my projecty type car. It runs fine except for the need for a new clutch, but definitely could still use some tlc (It sat for a bit after the clutch went out). I was going to simply replace the clutch and timing belt / water pump / spark plugs but as I was taking a look under the car I noticed it was at some point leaking from the valve cover on the driver side, so I'm adding that to the list. No signs of external hg issues, and but at this point, i'm debating the following:
heads:
1. fix the leak, call it a day.
2. take the heads off, and have a machine shop look at them / build them out
3. replace all together with stock or upgraded kit
block:
a. put some forged internals in as a DIY project / heavily relying on shop work of course
b. put a pre-built shortblock in
c. keep it stock for now
My power goals wouldn't exceed 400 to 500 whp in the near future and it's mostly for the fun of doing it and having another car I love. Based on what I've read, i'm going to be having a shop do most of the internal stuff, but I really would still appreciate any input on combinations of the above options.
