Re: Rob's 2014 WRB STI Sedan | Three year update!

So I might be contemplating doing a full on build. Not sure wich direction I want to go however. Full on rotated freak, or a maxed out stock location setup using something like an FP Black. Cost is going to be somewhat of a factor, but I want to do everything right the first time.

Re: Rob's 2014 WRB STI Sedan | Engine failure at 20,650 miles

Well, since my last update I have upgraded my stock interior bulbs to LEDs!

Ohh... and I believe the engine is terminally hurt. Looks like a full on build at this point, or somehow get out of the car. Stay tuned to see whats next.
The following video will explain what has happened.

Hey sorry to hear about the car! I was really enjoying your build thread until the last post. What did you decide btw ... rebuild ... or?

Also, did you ever put the e85 kit and the turbo on together? I got lost a bit through the large list of upgrades lol ..... I'm on e85 right now and soon going to be upgrading to Dom 1.5XTR and would like to see what that dyno chart looks like.

p.s. I'm from the Houston area .. just a little south from where you are... in Sugar Land

Re: Rob's 2014 WRB STI Sedan | And so begins the full build - UPDATES!!!

5/20/17 - Small update: Engine is FINALLY out, heads have been shipped off to Headgames Motorworks.
Cylinder 2&4 had ringland failure
Turbo compressor housing, intake manifold, and TGVs have been sent to powdercoating
Added some new headwork to the build too. Going o have Headgames' "pocket port" service done to increase some CFMs, and hopefully, help with some mid-range and response.

I think the hardest part of this whole process has been learning a new level of patience, I wait by the phone and scour their page just for a glimpse of my baby

I LOVE MY AWDTuning FAMILY!!!!

Re: Rob's 2014 WRB STI Sedan | And so begins the full build - UPDATES!!!

Updates:
I rarely ever come on this site now as FB groups are pretty much a replacement for forums
The build was completed, the car put down 605.
Blew a headgasket after 2,100 miles.
The shop claimed that the closed deck inserts dropped due to me abusing the car (WTF)
They rebuilt the engine and got the car back to me
Catastrophic engine failure 1,600 miles later
The shop claimed that I did not do proper maintenance, that running E85 contaminated the oil causing a spun bearing.
I took the car back and put it into storage.
Currently, the car is at a much more high profile shop.
An inspection found a wristpin C-clip stuck into the oil pickup, and the bearing was not the knock... the broken crankshaft was.
Nothing from the built longblock was salvageable.
The new longblock will be installed next week, and tuning is scheduled for mid-June.

Feel free to hit me up on the FB page "08-14 Subaru WRX/STI Owners"

Car was completely returned to stock, and then sold with only 29,611mi on it

I cannot be happier about getting rid of this shitbox, and proud to be gone from Subaru. Never have I encountered a brand so unreliable, poorly built, behind the times and full of failure. I would never buy another Subaru product as long as I live, nor will I let anyone I know repeat my 6 year mistake.

I wish you all well and hope none of you fall prey to the same fate I did.

Not to worry, I landed on my feet quite well:

Sorry that it didn't work out for you. I took my car to Kozmic around the same time you were doing your build. Haven't had any problems with the rev works closed deck block and the blouch 3.0 turbo in there. but who knows what tomorrow brings ... at least I can enjoy it today.
congrats on your new whip.
