Hi there,

I Already have Blinder M-20 Laser Shifters (2 shifters) installed, and I also have the Escort Solo S2.
I want to buy something better then the Solo S2.

Some help in choosing between these options, considering I need Ka/Ku bands and not only US-market bands!

1) Valentine 1
2) Passport 8500 X50
3) Beltronics RX-65

Any other options to consider?

Thanks!

i dont think american detectors have Ku. I know for a fact that the V1 has X, K, Ka, and Laser detection.

it's really a toss up between the V1 and the Passport x50. Some people like one, some people like the other but in terms of performance they are pretty similar (i happen to love the arrows on my V1).

I'm saving up for the passport SR7 with ZR3 laser shifter... No suction cups in your front window!

Actually V1 does have a Ku band, which is user activated. It comes dormant from the factory as folks from US will never need it. But you can change that from the settings.

If you want a very good detector that has Ku band, your best bet is V1 (I don't know if any other RD in your list has Ku). But if you say I want an RD better than solo, and don't want to spend a lot of money than get Whistler 948 Euro (not its price, they just named it that :)) Radar. I beleive it is around $120.

I have a V1 but if you really want Euro bands .. I'd go with Bel RX65
V1 has much more KU coverage than Bel RX65.
Bel scan between 13.375-13.425GHz , where as V1 scans between 13.400-13.500GHz. So how is it better for Europe? If we assume the whole bandwith used in Europe is between 13.375-13.500GHz V1 cover 4/5 of it while Bel only covers 2/5. In other words, covers twice more :naughty:

Go with their SRX, that's the latest model.

yeah not too many people know about them, but speed measurement labratories did an independent test and concluded,

that they jam most effectively

94 percent of laser encounters

I have had the V1 windshield-mount system in 2 cars, the K40 installed in one, the Passport SRX instaleld in two and current STi, and I have the Passport X50 windshield-mount in the Pathfinder.

This is how I would personally rate them:

Passport SRX > K40 > Passport X50 > Valentine 1

Those are my personal experiences. I worked in a high end car electronics shop for 3 years, managed it for 1 of those years. Passport SRX is a b**** to install becuase of all the thick gauge extra wire. Our most popular model was the K40 model, mostly because of its warranty. They cover any tickets you receive within the first year. Just the ticket cost tho, no lawyer fees.

I did not like the V1 because of the large ammount of false alarms and the fast that you had to pay a decent ammount to upgrade, and they ran upgrades quiet frequently. So ever few months you are spending more $$ to keep up to date. Another issue with the V1 is it picks up a ton of the infiniti cruise control sensors, which can get aggrivating. Acts like a laser signal. (Take you IR remote like for your radio if you have one in the car, point it at the V1, and press a few keys, makes the laser go off)

The K40 and SRX are great because they offer laser jamming abilities. I like the SRX because it comes with 3 shifters for laser (2 in front, 1 in back) and then a radar eye in front. It is also hidden. I like the K40 because you can add laser jammer, and it comes with independant front and rear eyes.

I am staying with the SRX in the STi and the X50 in the winter car. I found the Passport re-acts almost as soon as V1, its very minimal, and then its not as annoying with false alarms. And using the quote "but it has arrows" is stupid in my opinion. If your radar is going off, and ur speeding, doesnt matter where he is slow the F down!

These are all just my opinions with dealing with many radar systems and installing them into Scion tCs (I think I had the only 16k car with a 2k radar detection system) up to Mercedes SLRs and etc. For some reason Bentley and Mercedes owners love K40! While Ferrari, Corvette, XLR, BMW owners preffered SRX. It was a trend I picked up on.

Good luck on your search! Let us know what you decide!

no offense scooby, V1 doesnt come out with too many upgrades, I say more along once per year or so.

The problem with the k40 laser defense is all the new laser guns have hardly any effect by the K40, check out speed measurement labratories, they have some tests on it. Yes its nice that they rebate tickets, but there are special cirumstances, and if I was to spend that sort of money on laser defense, I would want peace of mind knowing that my EQUIPMENT works, and works most of the time, instead of relying on rebate programs with many excuses

that's pretty goofy. all youre showing is that you have no idea how to develop a coherant countermeasure strategy taking advantage of them.
