Hey, I just found the site yesterday and I stayed up last night reading every post. You seem to be brethren of similar interests and a bank of knowledge (or at least rumor).

I’ve test driven the WRX and I’m in love. I probably would have bought one by now if it wasn’t for my hope and prayer that the Sti will be showing up on our shores. The extra HP will be great, but I’m especially geeked over the six-speed and the upgraded brakes. I think that it is in the best interest of Subaru to release it soon. People like me who are torn between buying the WRX or waiting for the Sti may possibly happen upon another ride in the mean time.

Here’s my current dilemma. Should I get a 97-99 BMW M3, a WRX, or continue to wait for the Sti? I would definitely get the four door M3, but they are hard to find in a decent color. You can find them for around the same price as the Subies. Anyone with a take on how these compare is welcome to respond. Also, if anyone has some insight on how a WRX with the mods from Cobbs would stack up against a M3 with some of the Dinan mods, feel free to offer them as well.

Now a specific Sti question. Will we be able to order them without the huge rear spoiler that I’ve seen in so many pictures of the foreign car? It looks like an invitation to get pulled over.

I'm not sure about the cobb vs. dinan mods, but the big spoiler you see in so many pictures is actually part of the Prodrive package which may not even be available in NA when it comes. In other words, yes you will be able to get it with just the regular WRX wing. Hope that helps.

This has been talked over before, but I think the general consensus is that a used Bmer is more trouble even in the short run. Thats what I originally had my heart set on before I heard about the STi.
As far as the wing, there is still only speculation about anything, but that could be part of a Prodrive package.

first off, welcome! im always ranting on this board about the WRX. im buyin a 2003 in Nov of this year. and check out www.TurboXS.com much better prices. $1700 = 298HP, 38-18 hp more than a stock STi (tranny wont break unless you suck ass @ driving, if you think it will, cryo feeze it for $500 bucks, it'll take @ least 450HP). yeah dude, think about it this way... there are ONLY going to be like a MAX of 1500 STi on the first year and i bet that itll be the same the next year. but the WRX is availible now and that also means that parts a less expensive/ insurance is less expensive ($200/mo full coverage, 19yr old male w/ clean record) the STi will be called a sportscar and thus be in the SS/WS6/corvette catagory while the "lowley" WRX is civic classed insurance wise. if youre looking for a good kick ass car that'll haul ass stock and FLY with a few mods (uppipe/unichip/cat-back/K&N) and you can take these off and noone will be the wiser when you sell it for that STi. and those things fit on the STi.....so you're ahead of the game again. call me stupid but why the fuk would you buy a car that if hit might as well be written off as totaled? would you want that rear eneded STi back even after it ws fixed? i wouldnt really, cuz its not perfect. and accidents arent the same as "character" marks from rallying so dont compare those.

i call the WRX the middleclass mans M3.

ok im done with my rant.
again, welcome

Need to figure out what to get now- EVO 7 or mod a WRX

I can buy a EVO 7 in florida for 36k, or I can buy a wrx, install exhaust, brakes, suspension, wheels etc. prob not too much difference in cost. A little concerned about wrx drivetrain. Not sure which interior nicer. Also like to active differerntial in the EVO 7. Would like to spend 30k and have a kickass car(soon!!!) Can wait till fall, but really don't want to if nothing coming. Does anyone know how to get a EVO 7 cheaper, or how to import a wrx sti??

thanks for the tips on cheap mods.

yeah the evo 7 is a brutal car, BUT BUT BUT if you get that car just think about this. No dealership in the country will have parts for it in stock for the time being. I know the evo IS coming but god knows what it will and won't have compared to the jdm. The rumors are that it will not have all the electronic goodies.

As far as the insurance goes. I got a quote-the wrx and vette are within 150 bucks. Personally I was deciding between a 99hardtop vette and a wrx. I want a sti but I doubt it will be here before I need to get my next car, and I can pick up a slightly used rex and mod it to the teeth..and have it all included in the fianancing :D
