ok guys, im new to subys, but not cars. im a mechanic and have ben into cars and engines for 6 or 7 years now. ill probably have tons of questions for you, most of them ive found by searching.

my question now is, in my prelude, even if you werent downshifting into a gear letting the clutch out, it was best to move the shifter like you were, to align the synchros a bit better. do you have to do this on the 6mt trannys or can you just go from like 5th to neutral and stop as pleased? i try to shift as little as possible as to not add extra wear to the drivetrain, but in some cars its best to downshift through every gear even if you dont let the clutch out. kind of a stupid question, but ive ben wondering. ive only had the sti for 4 days now.

you are right, john; the brakes are for slowing to a stop, not the tranny.
