Hi,

I live in Port Washington, NY and my dealer (They always want you to believe they are your friend, don't they) called me to tell me that they are now accepting deposits for the STI.

Even though they DO NOT yet know the sticker price for the car, he was pleased to tell me that they are now taking deposts. One thing he pointed out, he did: The cost of the car will be $5,000 over sticker. He wanted to know if I would be interested.

WOW! I must have SUCKER stamped on my forhead somewhere. ;(

Anyone have any realistic alternatives to offer a Long Islander here. AND NO, I don't need any jokes here at my expnese.

Sleezeball dealer indeed.

Most of us have had deposits down for quite a number of months now. One, he is a liar to say they can take deposits now (that order was given from SOA in, what October?). And two, everyone receiving the 'official' preorder deal through SOA is a $500 fully refundable deposit and MSRP on the car.

Tell him to go do you know what with himself!

I would have laughed at him. I like laughing at ridiculous dealers. It reminds me of the time I went to look at a 350z. They had a $4000 markup on it. I laughed alot that day.

The funnier thing is he didn't get it and asked if he could wrap it up for me. I told him "Yeah right!" I think the stupid thing came out to $39k I'm really not sure how they got it that high. It was the touring model.

Like many others, I have a $500 fully refundable deposit for an STI at MSRP. I am number 1 on the list. The two questions ask of me where:

1. what body color (white)
2. what wheel color (silver)

A copy of my DL was attached to the form and the form faxed to SOA. I have been told that SOA confirmed reciept of the form and this was all accomplished in early December. I don't know if this is possible on Long Island, but try to find a rural dealer. :D

when the Sti comes out it will be a very rare car that has HIGH demand. By the rules of supply and demand, I think most dealers will mark up the car by 3-5K simply bcause they can. Even with this markup they will sell all of their STis very quickly.

You people who think you are going to get MSRP on your new Sti are gravely mistaken. Either be prepared to pay over MSRP or prepare to walk and wait.

Yes this car will be high demand but we must take in many things...

They will deliver 300 cars a month starting June. But we must remember the current economic situation and the target market.

The target market for this car is around low and mid 20's but those who can really afford it are ones in the 30's or 40's. There arent many college grad's getting jobs currently since the job market is real bad!! So you can bet a lot of college grads arent going to look at a car in the low 30's.

The ones in the 30's and 40's are losing a lot of money in the market and have to start saving more for their retirement and kids college funds. And everyone is a little hesitant to put down low 30 for a new car right now.

This car might be rare but do to the current economic situation of no jobs, less spending, job layoffs, and fear, I doubt the STI will be sought out to much. Remember a fast car is a toy...Not a reasonable car for a person with a family.

Also this car will not really lure wealthy people since most rich people look more for brand and luxury.

I am betting within 3 to 4 months, you will be able to get a hold of an STI fairly easily at MSRP. Remember its a subaru and not many people know of it yet. Only ones drooling over it are us and ones who read sports car compact and other car magazines, are usually the ones who cant afford it and just read about it...

Lastly, to much competition coming in soon... EVO VIII will be out for about 3 months, the R32 at around 28k..and many other cars not as fast but still better in other aspects...

Its an subaru...

maryey,

Yes, please give me a name and telephone number. I am interested in an STI but not for $5K over MSRP. I just ordered a Volvo V70R for the better half and I may have to do a V60R for me at this rate.

Where is this dealer anyway?

Thanks,

Claude H.

OK, here are some emails that I just got from various dealers in the area:

Metric Subaru:

no we are not taking any deposits on sti, when we have more pricing info we will make a decision at that time.

thank you

kevin brown

Hassett Subaru:

We are taking deposits on the STI. Although they will probably sell for over list price, we will guarantee no more than list price with a $500.00 deposit.

Please call me if that is what you would like to do.

Hassett seems like the only reasonable place. I live on Long Island, but I actually ordered a car from a dealer in MA since I'll be moving there in about a year.

I have my deposit with one of the dealers in the "official list" hosted on this forum. Very friendly, even mailed me one of the brochures with a note attached the other day. $500 fully refundable deposit and MSRP.

Hey EVO.....you obviously have a poor attitude and do not speak with any sort of credibility. Would you like to have the phone number of my dealer that has me down for MSRP? How about the 10s of others that have the same deal? Or would you like to call me a liar and 'gravely mistaken'? Otherwise, please do not post about things you know little to nothing about.

Maryey I would appreciate some help with names at Wappingers Falls, Did they give you any color choices? How about satisfactory paperwork? Thanks for the help.
