My 2016 STi limited is making the following noise (link below) when driving at lower RPMs. It does not make this noise when idling or on startup.

My research has led me to think this is a timing belt tensioner issue, but I've seen in a lot of those cases it makes the noise on startup. Mine does not. The car only has 60k miles and has an extended warranty. I cant imagine why it would fail so early, could it be something I did incorrectly?

Excuse the quality of the audio, it was recorded on a phone placed (carefully) in the engine bay.

The noise starts around 18 seconds in

I dont think its a timing belt tensioner. I think this is an internal engine noise. To help verify, try putting a long screwdriver to the block behind the alternator. Put your ear to the screw driver handle and have someone try to rev the car up to help duplicate the noise.

Have you checked your oil level? In my opinion, this sounds to me like rod knock. I dont think you should continue driving the car until a further diagnosis is performed.
