Well, after plenty of off time, but no motivation, I'm finally starting my journal. I've been a member of clubcav and newtiburon, but never made a journal for either. This is definitely going to be a big forum learning experience, so bear with me as I figure it out. I will try to edit these first posts as much as I can within the next few days. THE BEGINNING
Back in January, 2011, I started getting bored with my Tiburon. I wanted to get away from front wheel drive and I wanted more powah. WRX's started grabbing my attention, specifically a TR at that time. I found myself looking at more and more WRX's, knowing that I couldn't afford an STI anyways. Just as I was about to purchase a WRX with STI interior and spoiler, the stealership I was dealing with wouldn't budge at all on the price. I couldn't afford it with the loan I was originally approved for. My buddy started pressuring me into asking my bank for an extension on my loan so I can just go ahead and get an STI. Go big or go home, I guess. So, I did just that. Ended up finding my '04 WRB with a few things done to it, I'm not sure on specifics though. As far as I knew, it had:

FP HTA68
front mount
injectors
exhaust
hood scoop delete with plexiglass
Tenzo 18" wheels
window tint

START MAKING IT MY OWN
The first thing I did was debadge. There were no stickers on the foglight covers, so that was one thing I didn't have to do. Off came everything on the trunk. Then, I removed the STI badge from the grille, and proceeded to work on removing the star cluster pillar in the middle of it.

After having one on the Tib, I knew a short throw shifter was one of the first things on the list. I went with TWM, and have been extremely pleased.

I had a cf hood/trunk on the Cav, and wanted to do similar with this car, especially after seeing a GD on cardomain with a cf hood/roof/trunk. I went with Seibon for the hood/trunk. I'm still trying to decide what route I'm going to go for the roof, whether Seibon or the 3D Textured Carbon Fiber film from HeadlightArmor

Dyno day. Went to Robbie at Epic Motorsports in Fayetteville, NC. He did 3 pulls, and resulted in 327/331 on their mustang dyno.

THE INCIDENT
I was headed home from a friend's house, started hearing some ticking/light knocking. Pulled over, let it idle, and nothing. Started driving back to my place again and it started ticking again at rpms over 2500, so I headed back to his house. Every gear was light knocking over 2500, so I kept the rpms low. After parking, there was some heavy knocking at idle. I shut it down, started looking around with him, happened to check the oil and the dipstick wasn't reading anything at all, which was weird because I checked it a few days prior and it was good. We went to the store and picked up some oil, filled it up, and started the engine. Good idle, reved it up, light knocking above 2500 and kept getting harder. Then, it started doing it again at idle. At that point, I just parked the car and used one of my buddy's other cars 'til I deployed again.

I was told that it sounded like rod knock, likely from oil starvation, and also to pull the downpipe, and check for shaft play because after a certain amount of play, you start losing oil through the turbo and exhaust. I never observed any leaks anywhere, nor have I seen any smoke coming out of the exhaust.

I trailered the car out to Newport, Tennessee to have the engine rebuilt. I told the guy what I wanted out of it, and left it all up to him.

DEPLOYED LIFE
I was sent out to an "undisclosed location in southwest Asia" *cough cough* Qatar back in June 2011. I was very fortunate to be able to spend a month in Iraq out of my four months scheduled in the Deid, it was truly awesome, no sarcasm. Much time was spent looking up parts, and I came up with a nice little shopping list. Some things I bout got sent out to Tennessee where the car was, and the rest was sent to NC as time got closer to me getting back.

Looks like I'm going to be picking her up from the build towards the middle of November. I'm pretty excited. Just need to get outta the desert and start getting back to a normal life first.

I just had a photo shoot done this last weekend. There were many pictures of just my car, some with mine and this guy's orange Evo, and some with part of our car group.

Re: Patrick's '04 WRB STI (posts 15 and 16 for new pictures)

Some jackhole decided that they liked my personal belongings more than I did, so they broke into my house, while my girlfriend and I were both at work. They shattered my bedroom window, after trying to open all of the windows around the house. They stole my TV, PS3, Xbox 360, her laptop, and my grandfather's old rifle.

Needless to say, I've been keeping myself busy since then around the house and with my car.

I gave my friend my old hood and trunk/spoiler. He has a WRX, but he's about to drop in a JDM STI engine, so he wanted the scoop and spoiler. I had my old setup, but they were WRB, so he's been coming over every now and then to work on them, getting them ready to be painted.
