Those two codes popped up and taking to the dealer to fix. Not sure what oil was used last time but I'm getting Royal Purple 5w30 put in. Would do it myself but the brass plug is all rounded out. What was some fixes that other people did to clear these codes?

Sounds like a problem with the AVCS oil feed perhaps. Usually both cam sensors dont go out at the same time. Also for the love of your car dont put royal purple in, that stuff is junk. Use Amsoil, Redline, German Castrol, or Rotella.

If you can find the German Castrol its good stuff, I cant find it down here in Texas. Amsoil is my first choice.

As far as the AVCS system, you really need to take it to a shop that can do an actual diagnosis as there are lots of things that could be wrong. The filters in the lines could be clogged causing not enough oil to get to the actuators causing your codes is the first thing that comes to mind.

IB filters are clogged. Thank god they did away with them on 07+. Otherwise it is oil starvation to the top of the motor. Ugh...

UPDATE......So i took it to dealer to have them check it out and of course they asked what oil i was using. I wasnt sure since they changed it right b4 i bought it so they did an oil change, drove it, let it cool down, changed oil again, drove it once more and so far CEL hasnt come back on. They put Mobil 1 5w-30 in it so itll stay in for couple thousand miles till i can get some Amsoil to throw in.

Also, it had a factory oil temp sensor that was rounded that had to be replaced but a regular plug was put in when they told me a new sensor/plug would be $400. lil outrageous if u ask me. Anyway i hope its fixed and no more problems occur

This two codes just popped on my spanking new built engine. It has BC stage 2 cams, cp pistons, eagle rods etc. Before taking it to the shop it was running quite fine and the builder took her out for a spin and i was riding shotgun and all seamed well. After like 10 miles the check engine light popped up and I was already heading home, when i got home and pulled the codes with ecu explorer it shoed this two codes. So far my only guess is that maybe he forgot to take some screws out so oil could get to the avcs actuator. I'm using Quaker state 10w40 dyno oil for my brake in. Cold it be that the plugs could be lose? I reflash my ecu with an updated map to use the car with out the meth kit etc and the codes cleared. I just hope that they dont come back on and that it was just a fluke.

so engine like came on again on road trip, and im beginning to think it has something to do with turbo oil feed lines. I can hear somethin like a "rattling" sound when giving it throttle and watchin the boost gauge build. its in conjunction with the the turbo spooling so thinkin also my turbo is bout shot. Any thoughts?

Any updates on this? I had the same problem. Same CEL, and turbo went out. Then my motor went after I put a new turbo on.

I then built a motor with a new crank, hbeam rods, wiseco pistons, worked over heads w/ manley +1 valves & dual valvesprings w/ Ti retainers.
I ordered up an 08 11mm oil pump, sanded the plunger with 600 grit in hopes to avoid any sticking action.

I got 700 miles on it, and I start hearing a slight rod knock. Drained oil, no coolant, but there are teeny tiney metal flakes, and it's aluminum. Turbo is fine surprisingly, not really any shaft play- Garrett B/B FTW. may need new seals though.

My thoughts are... if you're getting this code... like other people said, you're getting oil issues to the cams.

Hey im at that problem right now but um was told by PIA up here that more than likely my turbo is dead now. like the car drives good and all, but i do hear like a metal scrapping sound too, lol. I stopped driving it and am getting another turbo put on but just worried my engine my be bad too.It blows alot of white smoke once it warms up and goes away once i drive, then once i stop there it goes again a cloud of white smoke, i will be doing a compression test on it myself since they charge like 170+ and i dont got too much funds at the moment. well any clues help me out thanks

This thread just scared the **** out of me. My 04 just threw The same two codes and then the turbo went. I'm real good with oil changes but latley ive been busy with school plus its been really cold. I havnt let the oil level get low but im deffinatly due for a change. i have a replacment turbo comin soon, but should i worried about my motor after i install?

I herd that the reason why some motors go after this is because of metal fragments in the motor/oil pan. Also herd that the cams could be damaged. I am buggin out :censored:

wow came back from the dead lol ....i havent had any problems since the engine was replaced but like everyone else is saying...its oil issue to the avcs. double checking the lines and flushing the system is bout all i can recommend and not letting the oil level drop. I have been running Eneos 5w-40 and been running strong

So I am having this exact problem right now. Literally 50 feet from my house it my car's CEL came on and the AP is saying P0011 "camshaft position - timing- advanced or system performance bank 1, along with code P59B1 and P59B0. My car recently was spewing LOTS and LOTS of white smoke. My brother decided to put 2 extra quarts of oil instead of getting an oil change while I was on duty, and when i changed the oil the white smoke went away, but 15 minutes later by my house, my car went into limp mode and threw up this CEL.

I'm at Stage 2+ Aem with invidia catted DP and AEM CAI, with 52k on my 2010 STI. I'm covered under warranty as I purchased the 10 year 100k warranty. Im looking for more info as to what I should expect to see. Clogged turbo line? BLOWN TURBO!? BLOWN ENGINE!?. help help help. closest dealership is 45 miles away...
any help or anything would help.

Your best bet is to probably check your local forum for a Subaru shop. Even if you were close to a dealer the extended warranty wouldn't mean much since you have modified the powertrain.

First thing to do is a complete oil change. Try using Rotella T6 5W-40. If you hear a ticking sound that is louder than normal it could mean that your turbo oil line is clogged.

Oh my lord, these two codes are motor and turbo killers. It happens for one of two reasons, well three actually. 1.your not keeping up on regular maintenance by changing your oil at appropriate intervals so bits of dirt/sludge or whatever are dunking up the avcs gears. 2.the banjo screens are dirty and not enough oil is getting to them...take them out of you have a pre 07 model. 3.(like mine) brand new built engine and break in metal gets in the actuators.

Stop driving the car at this point if you've already changed the oil and it hasn't gone away. If you have a way to log avcs position like with an ap then check to see if when you first start and drive the car if they are showing some advance and then when you first let it idle after driving it if they stay at zero the avcs cams need to be taken off and replaced or cleaned.

This can be a costly issue so stop driving it if changing the oil didn't work. I had to replace my passenger side avcs gear to fix my problem after my built motor and 3,000iles later bam blown built engine. Hope this helps and good luck.
