categorically they are 2 different weights. the 5w30 is what is recommended for the ej25 last I checked.

for much more detail I'd suggest you go over to bobistheoilguy.com

+1 vague question...recommened factory is 5w30, alot of people run 5w40 just cuz they believe it has better heat tolerance...you will want to see how you drive the car and how much you want to spend on oil. i personally run 5 qts 5w30 synthetic or partial synthetic of either motorcraft, stp or royal purple and 1 qt 15w40 diesel oil (have killer b 6qt pan) and my oil analysis come back great each time...i daily drive mine ~52 miles a day and do some spritied pulls in between there

I run whatever 40w is on sale at walmart in my wifes 2011 WRX, but its only protuned with an intake/muffler deletes. Do 3500 mile OCI's and OEM filters.

In my STi I'm not exactly sure what I'm going to run. Historically I ran 10w-40 Amsoil since the engine is heavily built, but I may swap to Motul 300v 5w40 on my new engine.

I use Castrol Edge 5W-30 Full-Synthetic for my 2019 STI currently at 17,000 miles. Been using this oil since last year & doesnt burn a drop. I also change the oil every 3,000 miles.
