Hello, everyone. My name is Matt. I have an off-road background. I love mountain biking and playing sports. I'm in the Army and stationed up in Alaska.

I first drove a STI in 2005 and fell in-love. I REALLY thought when I got home from Afghanistan in 2010 I was going to buy a wagon STI and drive back up to AK. However, finances were not there. I sold my 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser to get my 2011 STI last weekend.

I'm quite lost with the STI as it's mainly a gear head type of car. Where as my off road rigs were all about suspension. I have a TON of learning to do.

I don't think I got too good of a deal on my STI... I got too happy when one finally came in (basically the only WRX and STI's that come into the dealer are special ordered). My '11 is 18 months old w/ 22K. No mods were done to her. I got her for 34K (new the dealer is getting 40K).

Pics are of my old 4x4 Long Travel ranger, 08 FJ, and my new STI.

I just realized the pictures mof my off-road trucks are all the pictures were taken when they were clean and on the tarmac! I'll have to post some wheeling pictures in a little bit.

Explain "mainly a gear head type." A car as versatile as the WRX STI can be focused on almost any kind of things. The Impreza was born solely for rallying afterall.

And I wouldn't worry too much about the past, enjoy the present; you own a STI now! They're meant to be dirty ;)

The stickys are quite intimidating/time consuming LOL There's hundreds of pages to get aquainted with.

By "gear-head" I meant... I have always changed my own oils, transimission fluids, transfer cases, diffs, etc. I can wrench on trucks and get stuff working... except the engine. Beside spark plugs and wires, I have not touched a motor. So, having a turbo and all the other stuff that comes with the STI... I'm getting a bit overwhelmed with what to do, what not to do. The last thing I want to do is blow my motor up. I'm not worried about the suspension stuff as I know I can work on that stuff... know what I mean?

About rallying, you are TOTALLY right! I can't wait until this winter because we have rally races on the frozen lakes. It's like drifting without ruiening tires!
Patience is a virtue. I've owned a STI for almost 2 years now and was into this car since 2006, and I still have not learned everything. No need to rush, it's not a race

Modern force induction vehicles are no different than the naturally aspirated in terms of maintenance and reliability. Just don't touch the motor if you don't know what you're doing and bouncing off the redline too often, same rule for ANY vehicle really.
