My STi arrived at dealership. Salesman allows me to drive it to gas-up, car has not been prep yet. Taking it easy and shifting gears at 4K RPm's. 2nd, 3rd very smooth, 4th definite vibration at gearshift knob (RPM's went down to around 3K between shifts), shift to 5th and 6th and the vibration goes away??? Only does it at 4th! Does any one out there with his US STi 's felt this vibration? Do you know what causes it, will it go away or do I have a bad transmission in the car I will close in tomorrow, Memorial Day? Salesman felt it two, mechanics were not available (Sunday) to check. Need answer quick, thanks!

I have not noticed any vibration in fourth on mine. The tranny makes quite a bit of noise to begin with. The tires do as well. Are you sure you did not bog the motor? Anywho, don't take it if they cannot fix it or explain it.

Stiski: I'm sure I was shifting at 4K RPM. Unless that engine speed combined with 4th gear is too low and bogged the motor, I have no idea what could cause it. Did not felt like motor was stressed due to a need for downshifting. Shifting to 5th at 4K RPM did not reproduce the vibration (not noise, definite vibration). This is not fun, I'm selling my Lightning tomorrow at CARMAX and then flying 150 miles to pick-up the STi. Maybe I'll buy a round flight ticket and once there take the STi out with a mechanic before signing paperwork. Also, will keep the Lightning for a couple of days just in case, CARMAX offers are good for a week.

I have noticed that my tranny makes a lot of noise, like a clacking when changing gears (same kind of noise when you shift in a parked car) more so than my acura...

but otherwise, I haven't noticed any undue vibrations that have been happening.

No vibrations in any gear on mine. There is plenty of road noise and some of the transmission noise. The thunks from shifting are reasuring to me it sounds solid.

I have experienced the front wheel shudder from the differential though. Only in second gear with an aggressive throttle and a tight turn.

Same with mine....road noise from the tires depending on the surface....a slight whine from the tranny....and the thunk going into the gates. I felt the front wheel shudder as well, but not a peep out of 4th gear. The car has plenty of cruising power above 2K, so i'm sure you didn't bog it. Good luck!
