was there a specific reason for changing plugs and cleaning the MAF? i.e. some pre-existing symptoms

Did you gap the plugs when you put them in? If not would be a good idea to check the gap.
Also maybe install you stock map, then reinstall your maps from scratch

Happens on down shift, up shift or both? If there is no CEL it has to be mechanical. Modern plugs are gapped at the factory. You shouldn't mess with them if they aren't gapped correctly, just return them and get some ones that are. I would say clutch, but for it to be worse in the lower gears is strange.

Also I thought this was odd: when we changed the plugs we took the battery out, and when I went to check to see if my realtime map was gone it wasn't, realtime map was still there. I know the car lost power becuase my clock and radio had changed.
Was your trip odometer zeroed out? The stock ECUs have capacitors in them that will hold a charge for a while. To discharge them you have to push the break pedal down once. Otherwise you are not really resetting it.

I got it figured out. Turned out to be some kind of weird electrical issue that did something to my map.

Reflashed Map, reset ECU, Reset flat foot shiftifng etc., fixed.

Thanks for ther input though guys :)

I did the same procedure that you did, everything is fine now. :naughty: I had an alignment done two days ago and my battery died because its the size of a motorcycle battery. Most likely reset the E.C.U. giving me the problem. Hope this helps anybody in the future because that was a scary event for me.

I am having this same issue! I have a smaller battery in my car now, when I was getting an alignment yesterday the battery died and had to get a jump, because the brake was pushed in. Tomorrow morning I am going to try resetting my map. I am hoping this is it!

Need Help - Hesitation / cutting out

i am working on this impreza 2005 - the owner got an speeding ticket for 141 mph, just 2 mo ago. Now the problem is that the car has lost almost all power, 1st i found oil in the preren intake (intercooler up front) so i took the turbo to ariz turbo - nice guy there , he said the turbo seals were ok and that the turbo was rated about 800 hp??? ,he said alot of boost and there will be blow bye, he recommended e vac system on the crank case, 2nd there was an huge exhaust leak between the header and the garret modified turbo (3 inch with with no cat stainless) I repaired that and I could hear the turbo spinning up. i put new plugs in it and now when you take off it starts missing and cutting out like a 6 cly chev with a wore out dist- above 200 rpm??? any help? i am going to check belt timing in a few minutes ty
