I've been doing a lot of research looking for alternatives to COBB post greenspeed as my car has some modifications that I dont plan on returning to stock. Currently tuned on Accessport, what do I need in order to make the switch over to Ecutek/ Opensource? I dont believe there are any shops in my area of Southeastern (Norfolk/VaBeach) VA that tune with either of these platforms, so I am open to recomendations for Etune or within driveable distance.

you can reach out to @yamahaSHO he is jason, and owns jaztuning and he'd be a good option. so far as swapping. i think (could be wrong, yamaha will know more) that you'd essentially unmarry the accessport, and install ecutek or go through a laptop/tactrix cable for opensource, and basically redo your entire tune. i'd talk to jason ahead of time before buying anything from ecutek/opensource so you dont spend money on something that wont/cant work

Responding to subscribe to this thread. I'm in the same boat. I was pro tuned in 2019 and have deleted most of my emissions on my car. Reinstalling them is simply not in my plans for now atleast.

So I've been evaluating between open source or ecutek for my next tune. I'd like to go with a slightly bigger turbo and ELH. Haven't made a move yet tho.

I appreciate the insight. Thats more or less what i was thinking the process would look like.

Anyone in the same boat and have done Ecutek or Opensource switch? What did you choose and why?
no problem.

i am still on cobb, but mainly because i have the accesstuner race and an OLD cobb ap, old enough that it wasnt one that is connected to the internet, and therefore, not effected by greenspeed. got lucky i guess lol

@GK1707 talk to a tuner, the hardest part is going to be finding one willing to tune with emissions related items deleted, as it could be seen as a liability for them. hopefully you find one that works out for you.

Can you still get fresh tunes with your AP?

Also, with Ecutek/ opensource- Do tuners view deleting emissions as a liability? I know this might not be a fair question to ask since no one can speak for all tuners but I'm just wondering what the general feeling is. Ive only talked to a few tuners locally right after the greenspeed update and everyone was very concerned about touching emissions and waiting for updates to come..... so I havent revisited that again until recently after I have saved some money and wanting to do some updates again.

? what do you mean fresh tunes with my AP? i'm not understanding.

and yes, tuners will typically view deleting any emissions related things as a liability, because if caught, the EPA can fine them directly. this is strictly political and was changed with something from the gov in the last year or so, that's what brought greenspeed about. it sucks, but from the standpoint of a tuner not wanting to take the risk on tuning your car with emissions related items off the car for 500-1k for a tune, and facing a 10k+ fine if they were caught by the EPA, i see why they wouldnt want to risk it. my tuner actually stopped tuning all together after the EPA stuff came out, luckily, he is one of my best friends and still has the old software so he's willing to continue to tune mine, granted, if we get fined by the epa (highly unlikely), the fine would be solely my responsibility. granted, we arent a shop pumping out a bunch, it's literally only my car lol.

I guess I read your other post wrong. Since your AP is so old I wondered if it was still tunable, however it seems like it still is. I wonder if there are some old users willing to part ways with them. lol

it is, however, it's ONLY tunable because i have the accessport, and the software accesstuner race which is linked directly to the serial number of my accessport. so if the accessport broke, i'd be in trouble, or if i lost accesstuner race, i'd be in trouble. i basically just miss out on certain features the new ap has to offer, but the car can still be tuned well and make good power and be reliable.

you might get lucky but unless you find a V2 accessport for your chassis (which pending what chassis may not even exist) and the accesstuner race software with the correct serials, it's unlikely you'll find any. if you want to leave emissions in place, cobb will work. if not, opensource will work, maybe ecutek, definitely standalone, the hard part is finding a tuner willing to do it

Did you download the software and link the accessport to it before the greenspeed restrictions rolled in?

I've also got an old V2 AP for my GD STI, but I didn't download or do any linking to an accesstuner race. Am i hooped?

Yeah most likely. We had to get the software from cobb, as so far as I know it’s limited to my accessports serial number. It’s something you’d have to get from cobb that allows you to tune. Not something most would buy if they weren’t tuning themselves. You might be able to find it, but finding a tuner willing to do it with emissions related items deleted will be tough if not impossible even if you did have the accestuner race software
