Found this on MT's site.

2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi: The Impreza WRX has been a smashing success, bringing first-time Subaru shoppers into the showroom and establishing a true performance image in America. A watered-down version of the home-market WRX, the 227-horse model will be joined by its WRX STi big brother. The Subaru Technica International model promises 260 horsepower, firmer suspension, front and rear limited-slip differentials, six-speed manual transmission, and larger Brembo brakes.

so has subaru officially announced that this car will be released in about a year in the US or is it still just speculation (even though it is fairly certain)

I don't think anyone has seen any solid release dates coming from Subaru yet.

But an early 2003 relase date is probably fairly solid speculation.

I agree.

The good thing about having to wait is it gives some of us time to gather money for a sizeable down payment.
