I just bought this product from imotorgear.com

SKU: ALUAIR-R - Shift Knob - MOMO Race Airleather Reverse Style Aluminum/Leather

It's the same knob as listed on the subaru UK website and it's just awesome! Fit's perfectly without any adapters.

Is it this one?

Does it change the height of the knob at all? What about the size vs. stock?

the one you have is the 5MT version, you need this one:

because of the reverse pull up ring. also check the uk subaru website for a picture of it installed.

OMG thank you!!!!

I'm taking off my universal version of that from my current car and selling it because I knew it would not fit the STi. I heard rumors about the exact same thing being made by Momo that actually screws on and fits the STi. . . and there it is! :D

Ordering one of these VERY soon! I was bummed I'd have to give it up, but now I can keep the same feel in the new ride!!! Whoo Hoo!

Will the old momo 5 speed shifter (http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=361#1729) work on the STi or will I have to stop going in reverse?
I think the issue is that w/ the pull up reverse ring, there needs to be a hollow space inside the knob so the ring can be pulled up. the regular shifter will likely screw on but there is no space for the rev. ring to be pulled up. the one i listed is the one i found on the uk subaru site so i just searched long and hard for it online and it fits perfectly.

so here are the ones that will work

the 6MT knob from japan parts

the Veilside knob from 6Mt Supras

these MOMOs
SKU: ALUAIR-R - Shift Knob - MOMO Race Airleather Reverse Style Aluminum/Leather
SKU: F16CBN-R - Shift Knob - MOMO F16 Reverse Style Carbon Reverse
SKU: RACCBN-R - Shift Knob - MOMO Race Carbon Reverse Style Carbon/Aluminum Reverse

is that all?

No, there is another option I just installed... Sparco makes a knob called the globe x. I think it sits a little lower than stock, has a great feel, and was only $60.00. I'll get pictures when I have a chance, or search the net for "sparco wrx shift knob" and you'll find a picture of there project wrx with the five speed version installed. the six speed does have the groove for the reverse lockout. I bought mine from paisley automotive, but any sparco dealer should have them.

Just in case anyone didn't ALREADY know, the old Momo knob I mentioned above (http://www.subaruparts.com/catalog/?section=361#1729) officially does NOT fit. It contacts the reverse ring even after screwing it on a little. Screw it down to the correct height and you can plan on only going forward in the near future. Too bad I ordered the thing a few weeks ago before this discussion kicked off.
