Hey all,

I thought to see what you guys thought about the marketing of the Evo vs. the STi?

I just saw a Evo commercial on TV, and I have to say, I'm impressed with the way they are marketing the Evo. The tag line is something like "We started a religeon" with scenes of people hanging out around lancers, clips of WRC races with cheering fans, etc, etc...

Then I see a sample STi commercial, and it has similar WRC footage, but no spectators...just the car driving around a semi empty track. not quite as exciting, and not emphasizing the long rally history and the huge following the STi already has in the rest of the world. Plus I would think that the Subaru marketing dept would emphasize the daily driving attributes a little more, since to me that was what set this car apart from the EVO...i.e. it's my daily driver and I like my kidneys.

It doesn't really matter to me, since I'm getting the STi anyway, but I can't help but wish Subaru's marketing dept was a little better than it was...Mitsu's and VW's marketing dept are a level above Subaru's. Guess that's what happens when you're a engineering centric car company. :)

Re: Yeah, it's worth it.

I know for a fact that Subaru has heavily advertised the redesigned WRX. It has clips of rally, the STI, and of course the new WRX. Maybe it is Subaru's belief that the new design will attract buyers to the dealerships where they will be exposed to the STI. In other words, a way of saving money on advertising for a car that seems/looks similar to the "average" buyer.

while i'm dying to see an aggressive, showy sti ad (the only reason i watched the superbowl), i don't think subaru needs to do it. they'll easily sell every car they make (my opinion). what's the point? are there ads for the s4, m3, m5, etc?? (i don't watch much tv anymore.) these cars don't need 'em. neither does the sti.

marine06, does the new wrx ads show the sti?? the ones i've seen are shows of lance riding and the wrx. maybe it's a regional thing. <shrug>

Turbo guage is the same

You also have to consider the difference between the two companies. You have to assume that Mitsu has multiple times the capital SOA has for advertising.

Yet, as mentioned above....the people that need and want to know about the STi.....oh, we know about it!

Engine Manangement and Turbo Size

the mitsu evo brocure that the dealership is passing out has tommi makkinen plastered all over it. Does anyone else find it ironic that tommi now drives for subaru? Mitsu's rally racing peak (and subaurus too for that matter) was a few years ago.
