I'm new to the subie community. I'm looking at purchasing my first one, an 09 STI at a local dealer. I've read on the dreaded ringland failure. The car drove fine, just needs an alignment. The PO left all the service records with the car, timing belt was done at 60k. I did notice when I pulled the oil cap, there was some pressure coming from the filler neck. No smoke. It seemed to go away under throttle. I've been advised to have a compression check done. Any other advice?

Have an independent shop look over it. Also check if the ECU has been flashed. May give you some bargaining power or CYA in case the car is coming with an extended warranty.

I would say have a compression and leakdown test done on the car prior to buying the car. I would also have them actually give the results to you in hand on paper.
