Why doesn't Subaru use a folding rear seat? The trunk pass through is pretty worthless unless you're transporting skis. I finally test drove a WRX (and it was quite comfy, in contrast to various magazine reviews), but if I can't carry my bikes inside the car I don't think I can get it. I know the wagon would work, but I really don't like wagons. Is there any news of an upgrade in this department? Or possibly some aftermarket solution?

Bigmatt,
Subaru, like a lot of cars don't use anything more than the pass-through b/c it causes more noise and reduces the rigidity of the car. In a car like the WRX and other unibody sports cars you want it as rigid as possible.

I know what you mean, but I think the only reason they put the pass through was to satisfy the consumer on some level.

If you really want a car like that check the wagon out. www.i-club.com

You can make a wagon look really sweet! And of course if you want your bikes to fit, just get a hitch or roof mounted rack..

Big Matt,

I agree with you on both points. The passthough is near worthless. (Can two snowboards can fit through it?) If I decide on the sedan, I'm resigned to getting a rack for my WRX.

I'm also not a big fan of the wagon; however, I saw a black one recently on the street that had 17" OZ Superleggras in Anthrancite (sp?). It looked pretty cool. (On tirerack.com the setup just looks "ok." It doesn't do it justice.) The wagon definitely has a little more functionallity for mountain bikers, snowboarders, etc. I may have to consider the wagon.

If the 2003 WRX sedan has fold down rear seats, it's an easy decision - sedan all the way!

Subaru Dealers are taking deposits...

Alex,
I will seriously shocked if they come in 03 with a fold-down rear seat. If so, a no brainer, but I know what you mean.

We are looking at getting a dog in the next few years, plus we like to do outdoors things and a wagon or something would work out. As of now I am looking at the STi and then getting a 4Runner for the second vehicle..I dunno though. It has been really ncie having two used and paid for cars. In fact I have never gotten a new car! :)

probably a rebadged WRX

Does anyone have specs on the 03 WRX? One of my coworkers said it has more power which I thought she meant the STi was coming out next year...until she said it had 231 HP. Not a big deal at all, I doubt SOA would make such an insignificant boost in the HP.

Also, I didn't like the trunk pass through at first...but then it'll fit snowboards which is why I want the WRX in the first place. Plus, then I thought the advantage with a trunk pass through is that you could transport a couple of boards AND still seat 4 people! But I'd get a roof rack anyway...4 boards on top, maybe one or two in the pass through...meaning you could also bring a spare board or two

well fellas, i finally broke down and gave in and bought myself a WRBP WRX wagon. :D got it for 600 over invoice. I for one have no second thoughts! Hey you other guys w/wrx's, what exactly did they tell you guys for breakins? just to compare. they told me 500 mi increments, 4k, 5k, 6k, rpm and that after 5kmi, the cpu frees up 15% more HP. also, what do you guys think of the new 6 spoke rotary forged center lines? come in gold, white, gunmetal, silver, and weigh only 13.5 lbs!!! for a 17x7.

ABCdriver,
I know that in Sport Compact Car they did dyno testing and the car lost hp after coming back from a trip. Kind of like reset itself to the current conditions of city traffic...that was SCC's guess.

ABC, yeah, they told me to keep it under 4k rpm for 500mi, then 5k, then 6k, etc.. I ask because I seem to remember them (same dealer) telling a friend something different when he got his sedan.

91TB78, I read (may be the same article) when they were testing (exhausts or the vishnu stage zero or something)for project WRX, that the car gained HP after the long roadtrip, from 165 to ~177hp to the wheels. What they did was unhook the battery and reset the computer, returning them to their "baseline" of 165 for testing. I recall them saying the CPU learned a few tricks on the 1XX mph blasts across the plains, or something to that effect. I have the issue, read it the other night, just to lazy to get it and quote it right now.

by the way, here's a link to the center line's. I know its primarily a domestics company, but damn! they're so light! So far, this is the lightest wheel i've seen anywhere. (lighter than Volk te37's, RacingHart CP-035's, and SSR competition's!!!) Found them listed under front drive, don't know what offsets/boltpatterns they come in, or if 17/18x7 would be good enough for my wagon!!!!! http://www.centerlinewheels.com/w_catalog/fwd.html the colors are shown at the bottom.

I think those wheels look SWEET!!! :D For your blue I would go with a gold or the anthracite, but anyway you do it I like them! I may have to put those on my wish list for when I get my Scooby! How much are they? Also, when/if you check them out, check out offsets and see if the lug pattern matches your car....then show pics when/if you get them!

Yeah, in SCC I guess the car gained hp over the duration of the trip, but like you said went to baseline when they reset the ECU. Weird! Way different stuff compared to my 1990 Accord..hehe. I am pumped to get mine and get driving..only 9 more months! (something like that).
