Hi all. I’ve been talking quite a bit but I haven’t yet started a journal. When I initially got my 06 STi I wanted to make around 350whp and do a little bit of autocross. Hit that goal a few years back. Currently I am now getting into trackcross locally (think autocross timer, on a road course, without the back straight). Anyway. The car currently has a built motor/20g setup. It’s fun but I’m constantly trying to make it better. I’ll post a full mod list and some pics. First set of pics is the day I picked the car up in 2013

tune by Sean at speedytunes

all in all, the last dyno made 377whp/401wtq. However, I have returned it since then cause it didn’t make that power after it got off the dyno because of the tune Cleo at Iag made. The max wgdc table wasn’t changed on adjustments and by the time summer came it was down 3.5psi. I only had Cleo tune it to keep the warranty on the Iag block. The minute the warranty was up speedytunes tuned it. And it’s been running flawlessly ever since.if i had to guess, currently i'm likely in the 365whp/390wtq range

Future plans include more seat time lol.

next in line mod wise is a big swan mounted rear wing, chassis mounted splitter. And some nice vinyl wrap so it looks better.

pic in this post is the most recentpic I have. From a month ago when I bought my house.

Love thos auto cross shots there. Ive always wanted to do stuff like that with my car but have always been to chicken shit to do it lol. The fear of blowing it up at the track and all that stuff 😩. Looks like you have a built block so you're good to go!

The fear can still be there for me. I wish I had road course shots but with covid no passengers/team members could come so I got no photos lol. Do the autocross. It’s a boatload of fun and not nearly as hard on the car as you think.

So ifbyou see my replies on the forum you see I constantly say. In bold. DO NOT GET POWER HUNGRY. And this picture shows why. Keep in mind this is old. The car runs flawlessly now. But back in the day when I was stock motor. I had the 20g still. And I got my hands on 104 octane (I think) race gas. Put the fuel in the tank. Cranked it to 25psi. And enjoyed it for a super long tank of gas. My tuner warned me not to do this and I told him send it lol. Don’t do that. And this piston was the result. Ironically it did only have low compression and I drove on low compression for like 8 months while I saved for a motor.

Yikes yeah all the more reason why i wont upgrade the turbo. Upgrading the turbo on a stock block makes this is a real serious and probable possibility. Cant really say for the new 2018 and up engines but us regular block guys know. From what ive seen, these cars can hold up and last pretty long modded up to stage 2+ with the right driver and tune.

Upgrading the turbo wasn’t the issue. Upping the boost was. I ran the 20g on a stock motor making 340whp for a while pretty reliably. When I cracked up the boost it was a road tune. But we guessed based on the logs it was in the 410-420whp range. That’s where I had the issue.

honestly though if I were to do it all over again I’d have ported the stock turbo and stayed in a lower class for racing, or gone rotated with a bigger turbo setup. Which I debated on and regret not doing. Especially cause I worked at a shop at the time and the cost would’ve been much cheaper vs doing it now.

I love these journals and may do one myself. I do like the splitter too, did you say you made this one like we discussed before?
this one was made out of alumilite by a friend of mine. he used it on his 07 sti and i got it second hand when he went to a HUGE carbon one. sadly the splitter was ripped off the car (not intentionally), when putting it onto a trailer to build the engine. i'll be getting a new one that will be chassis mounted in the next month or so. gonna buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend before i get the splitter.

haha yeah. on top of the ring we also just bought a house, which was incredibly well maintained, but very dated. so we have updated the whole house, new floors, paint, landscaping, light fixtures etc. so that's also taking money haha. although hopefully this summer ill have a wing and splitter and have the car vinyl wrapped.
